I'm a PP with somewhat similar stats to yours. My PCP was useless for my weight and related issues. A year after I'd asked her about trying one of these medications, I had made no progress and was miserable, so I switched to a different provider in the same practice, who prescribed it right away. That said, as I posted earlier in the thread, I've been on Ozempic for 3 months now, am at 1mg, and have lost no weight. I don't feel any different at all. |
Yes, my H's PCP prescribed it. |
I was on Wegovy for 6 months - lost no weight except for the two 2 day stinks of being sick to my stomach. |
Thank you very much. I don’t need a referral and might skip ahead to the endocrinologist anyway—I’d love to have all my hormones checked. |
Ugh. I’m sorry—that must be very frustrating. I think that’s why maybe I should go the endocrinologist route to get the meds to make sure something else isn’t holding my body back. (I have fasting insulin resistance, so I know that isn’t helping things.) I don’t mind doing the low carb thing; I just need a little help to get me started so I can exercise without being in extreme pain, too. |
Please do this. I am still having intense side effects from Wegovy (lost no weight) three months after stopping it. It is awful. |
I just started Mounjaro, took my second shot of 2.5 yesterday. Lost 2 pounds the first week. My doctor has me on 2.5 for a month, then 5 for a month and then 7.5 No major side effects yet |
So this thread's timing is interesting. My doc just suggested saxenda to me. I would say I've only got 20-30 lbs to lose (perimenopausal, HBP controlled with other meds). When I type in my details to the saxenda website it says that my insurance covers it, but it still costs about $1400 to me. I have no idea if that is an annual, monthly, weekly, or whatever amount.
Earlier in this thread, people talked about getting meds from Canada (with an rx). Is anyone still doing this? Those posts were from last year. |
What are your intense side affects? |
Loss of income from pyramid scheme of weight loss shakes. |
Well, I went through my PCP to get a referral for an endocrinologist—called the endocrinologist for my fasting insulin resistance and they don’t see patients for that!
What next? One of those weight loss centers? I don’t want phentermine. |
Your PCP won’t prescribe anything? Wegovy or Mounjaro? |
Interesting article on how it also might help with alcohol use disorder:

They like me plump, I guess?! When I had my televisit I stressed that my main reason for seeking a referral for the endocrinologist was for weighloss…that I have fasting insulin resistance and that losing weight has been a frustrating uphill battle. She certainly did not offer any solutions; instead she wondered how to word the referral so that I would not get turned away…which I did anyway. ![]() Off to Google weightloss centers AND new PCPs. LOL |
My PCP brought it up before I could even ask and told me about the savings card (coupon) for it. Try asking your PCP if anyone in the practice has patients on Mounjaro or Wegovy. You can also use telehealth providers. My FB group recommends Alpha. |
