Villarreal Virginia Academy: imploding?

1. The 05s are a very good team and will be very good again next year. A few players are leaving but there are many good players staying and some quality new players arriving.

2. All credit to Kickers who deserved to win the State Cup final which is apparently posted on YouTube. However, this was the match when the emotional toll of everything going on caught up with the viva team, word got out about players leaving, etc. The day before they very easily dispatched a decent Stafford team 5-0 and they bounced back to win the top flight of the Potomac tournament at the end of May. Now on to Chicago for the Club Soccer National Playoffs.

3. I disagree with the “kick-and-run” criticism. The 05s have fast players and players who can accurately deliver long passes. They create a lot of counterattacking opportunities. But they don’t lob the ball 20 yards ahead of everyone and try to win a foot race. If anything, Kickers did that more in the game linked on YouTube nearby. (I was on that sideline not far from the Kickers’ cameramen- they had two cameras going for some reason). The Viva 2005s play out of the back plenty but certainly not always and probably less so in tournaments. They’re not Barcelona and it’s ok to take fewer risks in a Cup final, even for the kids.

4. Every coach has their own style, and I understand from reading these comments that Bo has some detractors. But, IMO, he is a good coach who motivates and teaches while letting his players play. He genuinely cares for his players and fosters good relationships with them. This in turn allows him to coach them effectively.

5. The Spain coaches are there to train the American coaches. Not the players directly. They’ve been clear about that from the beginning. It’s ludicrous to watch one field level video of American 8th graders and proclaim “I don’t see the La Liga influence.” This was always intended to be a long-term process and the youngers will by definition get more out of it than the olders.

6. I understand most but certainly not all players are returning to viva. I don’t know how many will stay with ABGC. It seems like many coaches are going with Viva but I don’t know the exact numbers. We had a positive soccer experience with Bo and had no intention of leaving until the management issues blew up. We wish Bo and his players success and will continue to follow the team and the program.

Give it a rest please. VIVA is a third level club in the area at best and now with the spotlight on the shady nature of the leadership at both AUFC and VIVA, it is going to worse before it gets better.

How do you rate clubs? Curious what are the first and second level clubs? How many levels are there? Thanks!

Ignore this troll. I don’t have a stake in this but appreciate any email that corrects misinformation and provides broader context. I hope everybody involved with this sorts it out and their kids continue to play and enjoy soccer. I think it is really awful if the club politics affected the boys on the field at any time, especially in a final. And I think the poster draws a legitimate distinction between direct play and kick and run.

That's a riot. He cares for his players and fosters good relationships? LOL. Okay sideline parent who knows nothing. While I can't say how I know, Bo trashes every single player behind their back with very racist, sexist, homophobic terms. The stuff he has said to other coaches about players is absolutely disgusting and horrifying and he is a lawsuit away from losing his license IMHO. He has the mouth of a sailor, and is ruled entirely by his ego. He may be an okay coach, but his absolute lack of character, his mouth, and his poor morals is the primary reason I will NEVER, EVER, EVER let him near my children. They might learn some things about playing the game from him, but all the negative stuff listed above that they would be privy too far outweighs the benefits.

As a side note -the guy is the poster boy of a manic depressive.

Unfortunately, this is entirely true. I can even say how I know - I was there and saw it on many occasions. I would not recommend anyone to have their son coached by Bo or any coach associated with him. Simply said UNPROFESSIONAL. very unfortunate.

Very valuable from a parent and son who are leaving such a great organization. Well, he was on B team though. May have been offered an A spot somewhere) Good luck

True. And there is not a single player on either of those teams who could not play absolutely elite possession-based soccer at the drop of a hat (and all of them almost certainly were developed in that way). Nobody at any elite level played kickball in their formative years.

Exactly, very critical point. You cannot play zero IQ soccer for 6-7 years and then all of a sadden change. Developing of complete players starts early. It is simple - find some say 06-05 teams from European academies on youtube and see how they train and play.

But wait, this contradicts the other clubs attacking VIVA for not fixing everything perfectly in a single year under VCF guidance. Julio made it clear on several occasions that it would be a multi year process to change the mentality. We’re very satisfied with the improvements we’ve seen in such a short period of time. I’ll sit back and enjoy the show of other insecure clubs whining here about Bo.

I also agree with, you can’t change at team in america that has been playing kickball for their whole life to play like professional youth players in spain.

Principle of play can be changed over a year with right coaching and approach.

Let us know which style of play you think is better.

Obviously, what Barcelona boys are doing is way more mature and resembles real soccer. Other team is just kicking forward but they do have faster kids. At this point it is absolutely irrelevant who won and who lost. The winners are the parents of players who are being taught the real soccer for sure.

No my son was on the A team but we are leaving for the B team at arlington.

Lol if he trashes his players then why do the come to play soccer for his club (viva). Even before viva/villarreal came in bo would coach u16,u17,u18, for aufc and he would have 2 to 3 teams in each of teams he coached. Also every age group thats wasn’t coached by him would have 1 or no teams in thats age group.

Than is even worse. Must be really bad to go form A team with Bo to a B team. You are not making a good case for VIVA.

Why don't you read, idiot. I said behind their backs, i.e., as in to the other coaches. If, as a parent, knew how my son was talked about by Bo to other COACHES, in the most vile, sexists, homophobic, racist terms, I would be horrified, no matter how old they are. Not to mention how he berates his players at times on the sidelines or during practice. Kids think if an adult is acting/talking that way, especially in a position of leadership, it's normal, so they don't think twice about it. It's not. I literally have shook my head and said if I knew he said the things about my children that I have heard about him saying to other coaches to his players, I would find a way to bring a civil suit.

As for the reference to being manic depressive- it's not to make light of mental disorders. But to truly point out Bo suffers untreated from issues that affect his mental capacity to regulate his emotions, and if its not well known by the parents, it is in the coaching community.

I have also witnessed this first hand, unfortunately. Amazing that the person like Bo has been able to still coach. I am sure it will eventually come to an end and not in a good way.

So you are telling me you are lying because you said if you heard it you would file a civil case. Lol the amount of stuff that people accuse bo of is hilarious. You just proved that bo doesn’t say any of this. LOL
