From the inside looking out, the dispute between VIVA and ABCG is disheartening and frustrating.
Egos superceded player development. The dispute concerns which entity represents Villarreal FC: VIVA or ABGC? Fortunately the impasse occurred during fall tryouts, leaving the door open for my players to look elsewhere. Even if the dispute gets settled quickly, the sheer fact that it occurred and needed to go to ADR or the court is astonishing. We enjoyed our experience with VIVA/AUFC. Not coming back. |
I thought those teams have been performing poorly as well? How are the coaches? |
Does anyone have a decoder wheel to translate the meaning of this message for the general public? |
Sooooo what happened? Or are Villareal parents just following suit on the forum of no info and take down the target in as broad a way as possible? |
Viva is a made up brand to signify the licensing of Villarreal's brand. But it is administered by ABGC. Not sure what your gripe is about.
May 4th, 2018 – Villarreal Club de Fútbol, one of Spain’s biggest LaLiga soccer clubs, announced the launch of its first official US-based youth soccer Academy to be named Villarreal Virginia CF Academy. The Villarreal Virginia CF Academy (VIVA) is located in Annandale, Virginia. Villarreal CF technical directors and coaches from Spain will direct VIVA’s soccer training, utilizing Villarreal’s established philosophy for developing players. Villarreal CF will also invite players that excel to train with Villarreal CF’s Academy teams in Spain. Villarreal CF Spain has selected Annandale United FC to manage the administration of the VIVA Academy and its teams. Annandale United will be renaming its youth teams as Annandale Boys and Girls Club (ABGC) Villarreal Academy VA and immediately transition to official Villarreal uniforms. Teams will be available to players of all ages and abilities. |
There were a few Villarreal kids at my DCs ASA tryout. |
They don't have all of the info. It's way more than just fighting over who manages what entity. |
And quite a few at McLean ECNL tryouts. |
The club (ABCG) and the affiliate (VIVA) dispute which entity holds the relationship with Villarreal as DA.
Meanwhile Villarreal stepped aside, not wanting to get involved in the dispute. Should things get resolved, Villarreal might return. Or it might not. That's the first problem. The second problem is no one seems to know how all this will end. Players (and their parents) are confused and very concerned about what the future holds, and if sticking around makes sense. If you got a player, especially a HS player, wanting to get college exposure, this dispute comes at a bad time. Teams that looked set just a week or two ago are now imploding. Players are trying out with other clubs, and some already got and accepted offers. Other clubs certainly went through challenges like this before. Guess it's Annandale's turn now. Both entities kept the dispute out of public view until yesterday. ABCG sent a message. VIVA sent a message. Both, as you can imagine, implored players to stay. If you were considering VIVA, I thought it important to let parents know the current situation. If you were already with VIVA, it's unfortunate to find these two sides disagreeing with one another and leaving the players twisting in the wind. |
From U13 up, the coaches are pretty good. While also coaching HS teams is not the only criterion, many of the coaches do dual hat for schools such as LBSS, Robinson, Langley, etc. As with any club, team performance varies. U14B is a top 100 team. U16, U17, and U18 (all boys) are top 500 teams. The top girls team is U15. VIVA plays in ENPL, EDP and NPL. Other than the uniforms and branding this past year given the switch to Villarreal, most everything else stayed the same. The teams tend to play from the back, and development follows the Villarreal program. |

Dear VIVA Managers:
As you may have recently become aware, there is a dispute regarding ownership of the Villarreal Virginia Academy. We want you to know that we hope to resolve the dispute promptly and are confident that it will be resolved in our favor. In the meantime, we are committed to safeguarding our program for all our participants. As you may also know, for the past several days, Bo and I have been locked out of the www.villarrealva.org website and have not been able to manage the daily operations of the Villarreal Virginia Academy. As of this moment, SportEngine, the operator of the Villarreal Virginia Academy website, has frozen all registration funds in escrow until the dispute is resolved. You have also heard from Villarreal CF through Julio Salinas that Villarreal CF will suspend their activities and coaching until a resolution is reached. Julio Salinas communicated this directly this evening at the managers meetings. Many of you have reached out to express concern and offer words of encouragement. We have tried not to confuse you with too many messages, instead we would like to wait until we can provide you with correct information that you need in order to make a good decision for your children. We greatly appreciate your patience and your support during this extremely difficult time for us. Our only hope in starting the Villarreal Virginia Academy was to provide first class soccer training and the best playing experience for your children and we are committed to that dream. Sincerely, Bo Amato & Carlos Aranda VILLARREAL VIRGINIA ACADEMY |
