Yeah, Heitkamp made her trembling chin declaration, but she’ll fall into line for the final. So two faced. |
It’s a pretty complex game at this point. Collins probably wants to keep all options open, and the only way to do that was vote yes on cloture vote. |
My guess (hope...) on the timing. If she and Murk are yeses, Manchin will not be able to break from Dems and cast the decisive vote. He is up by 8 points. Collins announces a no, and it gives the WH or Kav 24 hours to withdraw the nomination, and take the graceful way out and spare the country the down vote. They won’t. But a heads up allows them to do the right thing. “I was a yes before seeing his demeanor. That is disqualifying. I am calling on the away to withdraw his nomination and send us someone better.” I think she’d announce a yes vote closer to, because there are over a thousand angry women at the Capital right now. And her base is moderate R, D and I women. |
Manchin has said he will make an announcement with his vote soon, per CNN. |
I assume if you vote yes for cloture, you know your final vote and just want to move forward. If they didn't have enough for cloture, aren't they still stuck in limbo? |
I think a few of these senators do not know how they will vote. They want others to tip their hands so that they can make the most politically expedient decision. |
Agreed. At this point, everyone knows how they're going to vote. Nobody should be voting no on cloture. |
But then he'd be voted out. Republicans in WV will be furious that he went along with the Dems' smear campaign. |
Agree but Manchin will vote yes. |
If Kavanaugh is voted down, look for the loss of Democratic seats in the senate in November.
This is a very tough situation for Democrats in red states. It is the reason why Bredesen although he does not have a vote, said he'd vote "yes" if he were seated. Manchin is likely toast if he votes "no". I think Donnelly will be in serious trouble. Heidikamp is history. It does not matter Republicans feel about Trump and many don't like him. But the Supreme court is all important in red states - it is one of the reasons why Trump won. It will drive voters in these states to vote against anyone who comes out against Kavanaugh. |
CNN analyst suggests Murkowsk was likelyi released to vote her conscience, thus her no vote on cloture. If true, that means GOP confident it has the votes. |
Agree. West Virginia women are not head bobbing weaklings. Many ex-Coal miner's daughters are impoverished and they have suffered sexual abuse from drunken louts all their lives. I would not under estimate their silent anger about this ivy-league, entitled brat. |
Yes, please encourage Collins to vote for Kavanaugh. There are a bunch of hysterical single women outside her office telling her to vote against Kavanaugh. She’s too smart for that. |
She's already proven herself primary proof. Collins has not. Flake wants to run for president. And nothing has enraged/motivated GOP voters in a long time like the treatment of Kavanaugh and mob rule tactics of the Democrats. |
So because they suffered sexual abuse, they should take it out on a rich guy who had a uncorroboated accusation leveled against him? Like you, I don't think WV women are weak head-bobblers. They know it's wrong to punish an innocent man because someone else abused them. |
