And privates are almost always better than even the good publics in that you can find a good fit for your kid, and have much more say over their education.

I refuse to let public schools become dumping grounds for the disenfranchised. My kids go to public and they'll be absolutely fine. They have cultural capital. Meanwhile they're learning that not everyone in this world is rich and white.

It's not going to take my private-school kid 13 years to learn that not everybody in the world is rich and white. And unless your public is Title I, you have no reason to preen. You're just paying a different kind of tuition.

Montgomery County's "Smart Growth" without developing the infrastructure for higher populations isn't really very smart.

I don't believe In 98% of psychology or what is in the dsm. I think it's a farce. I think it pathologizes eccentricities, quirks, and normal variations in humans.

Serious question: Where is the riff-raff supposed to go? If you kick all the poors out of Anacostia, where do you suggest they live instead?

Pp doesn't care as long as she can walk to hot yoga and the artisanal butcher. A prime example of the clueless jerks DC now attracts.

And, I have tried for years to find a way to move to Canada. I am so tired of the US - the capitalistic selfish shit, the military worship (excuse me - you volunteered!), the stupid anthem, the pledge of allegiance, and the "we are the greatest nation in the world" fiction.

Wish I would have mentioned this...agree 100%. They have my gratitude, but most of these guys did not sign up for the honor, they signed up because they didn't have any other options.

I think ppl who file for divorce, never remarry or find another partner, and expect their children/family to pick up the slack and be their sole emotional and physical source of support are selfish. I think its selfish to file for divorce and expect everyone in your family to bend over backwards for an exact 50/50 division of time and resources between the divorced parents.

Most people in the military don't think they're heroes. They're just doing their job, and they said that. I know many soldiers, and that's the consensus. It's the general public that decides to heroicize them, because we don't know what else to do when they come back from Iraq with their legs blown off.

This is no bash on the public school system. Your child, I am sure, is doing fine in the public school system. But they do not teach Catholicism there (I totally get why) so that is why we made the decision to send our kids to Catholic school. It's not a slam on you OR the public schools.

My unpopular opinion:
Children do not have a faith. It's their PARENTS' faith that was taught to them, and they "adopt" it because that's all they know.

Recommend you do not engage.

I don't think there should be discounts at grocery stores, restaurants, or anything else for military. Or veterans preference in hiring.

That was my comment about Canada, and just to be clear - I am tired of the military worship because it is all about getting these kids to volunteer. The pomp of the funerals, the slow stepping, the ribbons, the uniforms, the press. It is a horrible job that is boring and violent and makes you kill people you don't even know so that they don't kill the people you are on patrol with. There is nothing dignified or wonderful about it.

This. Basically, you're brainwashing your children. They never have a chance to choose a faith when they are ready.
I waited until my daughter was 8 before I exposed her to my faith. It's totally separate from teaching children right/wrong, kindness, and discipline. She's 17 now and thanks me for allowing her to have an open mind regarding her personal spirituality. Also, she behaves with more decency than most adults. It's not necessary to indoctrinate children.

Fair point, my issue is probably more with the establishments that put military service on such a pedestal and the terribly obvious PR stunts they pull to show they have the military's back. It's capitalism...99% of that is complete BS.
But there are also those folks I see who say "I risked my life to give you the freedom you have to insult the President, or the way, or anything else." Slow your roll, buddy. I hope you didn't volunteer solely for the need to be recognized and worshiped. That said, I truly do respect the most of the guys and girls that risk their lives to do a job I never signed up for.
