Official Ebola update thread

I hope this isn't another new case. Looks like things are spiraling out of control and the number of travelers from affected parts of Africa is coming to light.

There have been three cases. How exactly are things "spiraling out of control"?

Spiraling out of control? Did you say that when we had two possibles at Howard University Hospital and Shady Grove?

Because it's starting to come from more sources meaning it's not all from texas.

Jesus.

I'm the one who lives near Reston hospital, and I am worried because my dd's have asthma. My 8 year old has been sick with a virus for 2 weeks, and has spent the last 3 nights coughing. If I have to take her to the hospital for breathing difficulties, I would normally take her to Reston. If a passenger with ebola flies into Dulles, then there we would be. Right in an ebola hospital. I call that a reason for concern. If you don't think so, you are deluding yourself.

If the hospital is ready to receive Ebola cases, then they won't be putting your kid, or anyone, for that matter, anywhere near a patient who is isolated due to Ebola. That goes for the waiting areas, lab areas, everything.

Like they did in Dallas?

Oh, I must have missed something. Did people from the general population get sick in Dallas? I thought it was only nurses who worked with the patient before appropriate infection control procedures were put in place.

They sent his blood sample through the hospital's tube delivery system. That's not proper procedure.

Yes, it has been noted many, many times that proper procedures were not in place in Dallas. However, that does not mean that proper procedures are not in place in Reston.

Even with the appalling lack of protocol in Dallas, the only two people that have been sickened are health care workers. Not the lab staff, not the patient's friends and family, not the housekeepers, and not any asthma patients who came to the ER. PP's who are worried about having to go to Reston should feel comforted by the fact that Ebola actually is not that easy to catch, even when infection control procedures with acutely ill patients were not closely followed.

What are you talking about? There have been no diagnosed cases outside of Texas. You're suddenly hearing about incidents like the Loundon County inmate because people are paying more attention and the media is reporting it more.

Do you have any idea how many false alarms there have been in the last two weeks alone?

Just posted by the Patch that a Loudoun Jail inmate has symptoms and said he was in W. African Ebola countries within the last 24 hours. He has been tested so we will know whether he has it within 24 hours. My guess is yes.

Because that would be the right thing to do. That would have stopped it from spreading. But we are living in a bad tv movie and all the leaders are making mistake after mistake.

No.

Why? Can you give us more details, since you are familiar with this instance?

Most people of means don't end up jail when visiting the united states (at least not within a couple weeks). She (I've read it is a woman) probably came here needing help, doesn't have local family or friends but knows we have good doctors so she came here. She doesn't know our laws and and broke the law somehow and is in an Jail. Said another way, I am guess your typical loudoun or fairfax or MOCO or DC inmate has NOT been to W. Africa within the last 21 days.

If they invent an Ebola vaccine would you have it shot in you?

I wouldn't
