Things like this are becoming more and more common. Our schools and parents need to work harder to educate kids on things that can land you on the sex offender registry for life.

No, our parents need to work harder to teach boys what it means to have respect for women and to teach girls what it means to have respect for themselves and their bodies (If any of these girls knowingly allowed nude or explicit pictures to be taken of them. It's a big if and I hope they did not). OP, if the only problem you see is some of these kids being on a sex registry shame on you. The boys' names, especially the 18 year old, will come out and that does not bother me in the least.

The pics were "posed" according to police report. I don't know how you unintentionally pose. Or accidentally post your nude pose. But believe what you will.

Few kids have a parent at home. What do you expect?

What on earth? Why are you obsessed with a "parent at home?" You've raised it several times. You are clearly trolling for a SAHM/WOHM debate. Thank God no one is taking your obvious bait.

Provided that the girls sent their photos voluntarily...I am saddened to hear such a strident boy vs. girl argument here.

Both are equally at fault and both are equally stupid. Anyone with half a brain in their head in this day and age of technology knows how quickly and viciously information can be disseminated.

What the boys did was most definitely wrong, and what the girls did equally so. Both are to blame, both need to equally bear the consequences of their actions. Both will hopefully learn from their stupidity and we can only hope that the rest of the boys/girls out there will finally learn to think twice - we all know this is not the first of these occurrances - so no more excuses!

Why is that so difficult? I knew 15 years ago not to allow nude photos to be taken of me with an archaic 35mm.

If the girls were drugged/drunk/spy cammed, etc. - well, that is an entirely separate issue and in that situation they would most certainly not be to blame in any way and I doubt anyone would argue the contrary.

Other posts place the blame on the kids who possibly took their own pictures and imply that it is their fault that the other kids created a website.

While there may be a few posts like this, most of the posts that focused on the girls were as a result of people saying they placed no blame at all on the girl, which I totally disagree with. I definitely don't think the boys should get a pass at all. I'm just appalled by those posters who think it's ok for girls to send porn to other minors. I don't want my child being the recipient of any pictures like this and think the girls need to be held accountable or they and others will keep doing this. Just because the boys are more wrong doesn't mean what the girls did wasn't also unacceptable and in fact criminal.

I'm not seeing the posts that say it's okay to send porn, I just keep seeing the ones saying that the children who took their own individual pictures have the same amount of culpability as the young people who collected and labeled the pictures, put them on a website, and sent out links to others to view. I also see posts using demeaning terminology to describe the children whose pictures are in the folders on the site.

I see that you are in fact acknowledging that the site creators have more moral culpability, but other posts have not. If it is true that children took their own pictures, I suspect that the fallout from this incident will be a deterrent.

Also, important to keep in mind the ages of the kids involved. We don't know the ages of the kids in the pictures, beyond the fact that they are minors. Are we talking 16 or 17? Or are we talking 13 or 14? Big difference in maturity levels between a 13 year old and a 17 year old. Generally, courts take age into account when considering a case. The kids who are associated with the creation of the site are on the older side of the range. Just another point to keep in mind. At least we can hope that hearing about this situation will get other kids to realize and think twice before doing something impulsive.

Ah, the voice of sanity. Very nicely written, thanks.

We have no way of knowing whether what all of the parties did in this situation was equally wrong. That's a decision that can only be made as part of the legal process by those who have all the pertinent information in front of them.
I love to talk hypotheticals as much as the next person and really that's all this thread is since no one can really know what happened except the people directly involved. We can't really say whether blame is equally spread around or whether some were more at fault than others because we have no way of knowing who did what and what the actual circumstances were.

I am appalled at the majority of posts to This site. Most blame the girl students and assume the photos were consensual. Even if they were, that is not even an issue here. I really dont see anyone calling this what it is. One teenage sociopath and his accomplice selling pornography of underage girls for profit. I write this after i heard that these twisted youths are off scott free and once more roaming the mclean high halls. My guess is they'll be attending UVA soon and joining a fraternity that encourages and rewards this sort of behavior. Their parents should be so proud, and you should all be ashamed. There is no equal culpability to this crime and if it were a black kid from Southeast, the court would have thrown away the key. Instead my daughter has to attend class with these miscreants as if nothing ever happened.

Can't wait to move from this area. So many parents enabling tomorrows criminals all the while bragging about their house size.

I'm surprised to hear that this is how this case turned out. Scary! and sad.
