Or just redistrict if you are unhappy with the results. |
Wow. Can I? But seriously, what are you talking about? Don't confuse school redistricting with the choice of public park land for school construction. Yes, I suppose there have been some menacing comments about kicking the malcontents out of the cluster...but I would like to know who's making them. Who is saying if you don't let us shove a school onto your park we'll just cut you out of the cluster..really, who? |
Hmmmmmmm...could it be the A.R.R.? ![]() |
Roscoe R Nix, you are missed. We need more folks who tell it as it as. |
As it is.
Amen! |
There is a Planning Board Meeting on this topic on March 15th, please look and go:
You can check the Planning Board calendar for times of the March 15 and April 12 items, once they are established, at: http://www.montgomeryplanningboard.org/ BCC middle school 2 will b eon the dockett Please go! |
On threats of kicking folks out of the cluster - who exactly is making those threats and/or suggestions? Please name the individuals and provide context for those threats.
Personally, i view such discussion as wholly inappropriate. Intimindation is not something generally known for creating community buy-in or trust in the process. So, please let the public know if MCPS, BOE, or COunty officials have been threatening any community with repercussions for being so bold as to object to their plans. NAME AND SHAME THEM. |
I agree. Name and shame them. The Planning Board Meeting sounds very interesting. A big thank you to whoever posted the agenda. |
Why just one Middle School? They closed so many schools, reopen them and make them Middle Schools. |
There is an old tradition in the city of Firenze for neighborhoods to compete against each other once a year, in sport themed matches. The winning neighborhood gets in the good graces of the Prince. But that would never happen here. |
It reminds me of The Lottery by Shirley Jackson. Ok everyone gets one throw at Kenisngton. |
Let's call it Rock Creek Hill please. Lots of us in Kensington are unaffected and uninterested since we're in the Einstein or WJ clusters, and think this debate is silly. |
I'll admit, some of the posts are silly and humorous, but I wouldn't call the debate silly. Where to put the school is a perfectly legitimate debate as it directly affects the neighborhood. And think about this: some folks are not in ANY cluster, have no children and will be adversely affected anyway. I am so tired of the Montgomery County BS mantra' It's for the Children. No one wants a large over sized middle school in their midst. School are all being built over sized these days, just like houses and cars. It's disgusting, and I wouldn't want a large unsightly building in my neighborhood either. |
So the argument goes, some people don't have kids, so they think there should be no school in their neighborhood? I would say this is silly. I, and many other young families, would be happy to buy those empty nesters' houses off of them to live near a brand-new school. |
No, the argument goes; if you are going to take away a neighborhood public amenity, then it is not a school related issue, it is a development issue that affects all people, not JUST people with children, and so ALL people should have a say in how their neighborhood gets developed. Now, if you are going to redevelop school owned property (which many would say RCH is) then there is no quibble, but when you are taking from the larger community for the needs of a few (sorry but that is true) then the larger community should have more say. As for my community (and I do have young school aged children but I am not self centered enough to think we are the few who matter most) we already have several schools, and I can tell you, they are a pain in the neck when it comes to traffic. |
