| The first event is this coming Friday. DS is 9 years old. Are most kids dropped off, or is it okay to stay and watch? |
| Most kids are dropped off. If you do this, be sure you are there when they are dismissed. You may chaperone, but there are rules. Call Mrs. Simpson if you're interested. |

Just to be clear - parents are not in fact allowed in the ballroom unless they are chaperones. There is a little parlor in the front of the building where a couple of parents sometimes wait. Most people carpool. For pickup you just wait outside. |
| These cotillions are such BS. My son did it one year and it was a complete waste of time/money. If he/she has a great family and goes to a great school, something like this is completely unnecessary. Further, Mrs. Simpson is a bit of a racist. We know several Jewish families at our school who were treated horribly by her. |

At Capital Cotillion, some parents drop off and some stay. Do whatever is comfortable for your child as they may be more reticent to ask a boy/girl to dance in front of mom/dad. We tend to go in near the end when it is line dancing to "observe." This way we can see a little, to see our child mixing and dancing but are not the helicopter parents up close watching every move. Having said that, parents are welcome to watch, but asked to be quiet (though most sit there and chat with each other).
I wouldn't know the rules at Mrs Simpsons as I find her antiquated and as the previous poster mentioned not exactly politically correct. |
| Your either in or out and Mrs. Simpson's is utter BS. If your DD isn't standing in the kitchen of the Waldorf she isn't a debutante. |
What does this mean? |
LOL! |
Sounds like she means that only posh (or once posh) hotel kitchen workers are debutantes? If that isn't a sign of change I don't know what is. |
|
No, darhhhling, your showing your class or lack thereof. The International Debutante Ball is held at the Waldorf and the debs stand in the kitchen before they're introduced. Tut, tut. Trust me, you know if you're one of us. If your car is less than five years old and your house is underwater
you're not. Let the roof leak and the tail pipe fall off. WASPs rule. We'll always be here to save your sorry asses. |
| Anybody who wastes their money on this garbage gets what he/she deserves. |
I feel the same about people who waste their money on wide screen tvs. |
| I have to throw my two cents in here. DS went to Landon and yes, Mrs. Simpson's let him in. We are nobodies, have no connections and struggled to put DS through private school for a few years. In 5th grade, DS and his friends (most) hated it. In 6th and 7th grade, they couldn't take showers fast enough to get ready for the dance, they loved it. In 8th grade, it was still fun, but not as much because DS was then going to public school and didn't really feel a connection with private school girls. In 9th grade, DS is signed up again but will miss most because of travel sports. That said, when we had a family gathering last Thanksgiving, DS waltzed with me. He did so well, and danced so beautifully, and it was so fun, it made me want to cry. I didn't learn how to waltz until I was in my 30's. They don't teach it in school anywhere I can think of. So for me, it was money well spent. |
This is so sweet - I can't wait to send my boys to Mrs. Simpson! |
