Virginia Democratic AG Candidate Arrested in 2023 for Driving 116 MPH on I-64

I can’t in good conscience vote for jay jones. I care about VA and this is not the type of individual I want in the attorney general position. I may not have voted for Trump but voting straight democrat because of Trump is bonkers.

I voted for Trump and regret it, and I can't support a candidate like Miyares who is so aligned with Trump's disastrous policies. I will be voting for Jones, and I have no qualms doing so.

Get used to republicans being in charge.

Dems are going to have to get rid of their purity test if they want to survive as a political power.

You do understand what the VA AG does, right?

One is the underlying reckless driving. Going 75 is one thing. Going 116 on I-64 is another. It’s highly reckless.

But the other issue is his running for office when he knew it should have known this would come out before the election and be a big boost to Miyares. He kept another Democrat from running instead.

Both of these things evidence extremely poor judgment and, while I’d previously planned to vote for him, I won’t be doing so now. I will vote for Spanberger.

Agree completely. He has lost my vote.

Most of these posters aren’t Dems.

The real Dems know what is at stake.

You said the same thing when we were staring at the Biden v. Trump choice. At some point how are Democrats not learning to put up better candidates instead of berating voters about casting a ballot for their terrible candidate or else MAGA. Do better. This is why the party is so unpopular even in the era of Trump.

So to “teach” Democrats a lesson you’re going to fck us all over.

So irrational.

Grow TF up.

Nope, the Dems f*cked us all over by putting up Jay Jones for AG. I am not voting for Jay Jones because he is completely unfit for the job that he is running for. I am not going to eat a sh!t sandwich to cover for the Dems inability to run a qualified person for AG. And I’m not the only one with this perspective, but keep screaming into the void. *Shrug*

Go nuts. At least admit that you think MAGA is an acceptable outcome.

And Jay Jones is?

Yes. He got a speeding ticket and sent a text. It wasn’t an actual threat, just bad taste.

Get a grip.

It wasn’t a threat he wanted to shoot
Someone and their kids? How far will you go to rationalize that this person is not fit to be AG?

Was he actually threatening to shoot anyone? Hitler? No, it was obviously a hypothetical.

Poor taste but not an actual threat.

Here is some of the texts you think aren't so bad:

Jones then mused about a scenario in which he had two bullets and could choose to fire them at Adolf Hitler, Pol Pot — the brutal Cambodian dictator — or then-House Speaker Todd Gilbert (R).

“Spoiler: put Gilbert in the crew with the two worst people you know and he receives both bullets every time,” Jones wrote, according to the screenshot
.

The text conversation continued after the call ended. In those further texts, Coyner suggested that Jones had also talked about Gilbert’s children dying in the arms of their mother, Jennifer.

“You weren’t trying to understand,” Coyner texted. “You were talking about hopping [sic] jennifer Gilbert’s children would die”

“Yes, I’ve told you this before,” Jones replied. “Only when people feel pain personally do they move on policy.”

If a Republican said this about any Democrat you would be screaming to high heavens. The fact you think this isn't so bad says more about you are your willingness to excuse this.

I am guessing his point was around gun violence. Would it take having their own kids shot to convince Rs to support common sense gun control?

We don’t know exactly what was said or the context.

Speeding and bad taste texts? I’d still take him over MAGA.

The bar is truly so low now thanks to the Republicans that he honestly still has a lot of leeway.

The texts were posted. They were exactly what was said. There’s no context this is acceptable. The fact you are trying to downplay this is just ridiculous.

No we don’t know what was said in the conversation. We don’t have the full context.

This guy drove too fast and wrote some poor taste texts.

I’ll take that any day over someone willing to throw away our rights.

Exactly what context are we missing when this guy wrote he wanted to put 2 bullets in the head of his opponent, anted his kids to die in their mother’s arms and then double down on the comments?

The entire phone call is missing. You don’t know what was said or even what led up to the conversation. You don’t know the tone.

Are you purposely ignoring the texts? And I might add that jones has not denied anything that was written about the phone call.

Are you purposely ignoring the fact that there were circumstances that lead up to that exchange?

Are you purposely ignoring the fact that there was an entire phone call that we didn’t hear?

We don’t have the context for the texts, period. We don’t know the intent or tone.

He could easily have been joking. Something that was in poor taste and still warranted an apology.

Anyway, my entire point was we don’t have the context to make a fully informed judgement.

DP. The predictable partisanship has come out from both sides, but the bottom line is that Jay Jones lacks the judgment and character to be elected as AG.

I'm planning to split my ticket and hoping this dope and the Democrats who come to his aid for reasons that are easily understood yet also indefensible aren't going to tank the campaigns of Spanberger and Hashmi.

Yeah, but the emails. Always expecting democratic candidates to be perfect, but republicans can bat negative thirty and it’s a-okay. And then you wonder how you end up with bought, miller, kegsbreath, worm brain, and puppy killer to represent your interests. Gtfoh

Jones is anything but perfect, and the lack of adequate vetting of potential candidates by the Democrats is a real problem. You should be lucky Miyares is the only GOP candidate I’ll support this cycle given some of the pathetic circling of the wagons we’re seeing.

Very telling that you throw around your vote, not based on the issues, but on the comments you read online from random people.

Character matters.

The more I learn about Jay Jones, the less seriously he can be taken as a worthy or deserving candidate.

Do you want the guy who will bend over - again - to Trump? Or the guy who will fight for Virginians?

I take the guy with morals and a backbone, even if he's not perfect.

I agree. I want the guy who going to let me off from every crime because he’s sinned too. And I really want to get to work in 10 minutes. Hour long commutes are hell. And it begs the question if we need police at all if we’re going to give everyone a pass because “nobody is perfect”. Now, you may claim Jay Jones won’t do that. But that would make him a hypocrite. And Jay Jones may be many things, but he’s no hypocrite.

Good grief. You are twisting yourself to make excuses for this idiot.

He has not denied any of it. Because everything written is accurate.

"Everything" is not written. They had a conversation that was not captured in these texts.

He did write the texts - and apologized for those. We just don't know the context.

Here’s more about your “context.”

What set off the death fantasy text chain was…a nice eulogy given by the Republican that Jones wanted dead…for a Democrat who’d just died. The decreased wasn’t left-wing enough for Jones, it seems. He might have wished that guy dead in the texts, too, if his funeral hadn’t inspired them.

I don’t think most normal Republicans across the country have understood the gravity of the Virginia situation yet

If the Democrat candidate for Attorney General (@jonesjay) 1) stays in the race and 2) wins

AFTER being exposed for texting about putting “bullets” in the head of his Republican rival, and wishing death on literal kids just because are they have Republican parents…

Then the Democrats know that not only are there no repercussions for their violence and incitement…

But that they will actually be rewarded for it

The fact that the VA Democrats haven’t called on Jay Jones to drop out yet is a true mask drop moment

When Trump got exposed for some “locker room” talk in 2016, almost every major national Republican figure called on him to drop out!

But when a Democrat candidate for state-wide office in a major state is caught fantasizing about murder, and after Charlie Kirk, and they aren’t asked to bow out…

It tells you Democrats are totally on board with political violence. Period. Forever.

If they won’t hold their own accountable (and they won’t) then our only recourse is to beat them at the ballot box again and again.

We must crush the Left—before they kill us.

Jones was exchanging texts with a Republican lawmaker. She kept the receipts.

Guy seems to have an IQ of about 75.

Once again I’m forced to ask how this guy got this far? Is the state party really that bad, or is this the logical outcome of “blue no matter who?”

I'm not saying that Republicans are right. I have voted Dem for many years. I know that each side is now starting fights with each other...but it's not worth anyone's life. The thing that scares me about being liberal for so long is all the extreme liberals that choose violence or death. The fact that Jay Jones talked about it tells me he condones it and I can't imagine what else he condones that he's not saying. This time he was caught. Whoever said he should have never entered this race is right...he took a spot from possibly another option. I will have to vote for Miyares...there is no other choice for my conscience. Even if that means a Republican. Not partaking in voting is not an option, too many people have fought for my right to vote and I am keeping it.
