I haven’t said that, but if you’re so fixated on costs—and some of these comments are—then it is completely relevant, especially if your in-state options are good. Universities abroad will always be there for grad school, study abroad, etc. |
W&M/St. Andrews JDP can be a good compromise. Great educational opportunity for a truly independent kid. |
I would t call being concerned about American college costs - now surpassing $100,000 a year (NYU) - “fixated”. |
I’m talking about the specific comments, not the general concern. If cost is a deciding or major factor for someone—and it isn’t for everyone—then it is perfectly reasonable to suggest a public university as an alternative. Especially when that still comes with options for getting abroad. |

One important benefit is that graduates of some universities abroad is that they are granted work visas and can continue to live abroad after they receive their college degree.
I sincerely hope that the US will turn around with the next presidential election, but if we continue down the current road, knowing that your child has this option provides for some peace-of-mind. Of course, if we as a nation are able to self-correct, one's child could always return to the US with the valuable experience and insight of someone who has lived for a significant time abroad. As, hiring managers--my DH and I both hire people in our respective positions--we both look very favorably on candidates who studied abroad. |
Not at all. My kids are in humanities and business. SO that is what I focus on. The vast majority of these are under 25k pounds. You are not medicine there, so if STEM you will be at 30k pounds. Even with room and board and the fact it is 3 years you are still MUCH MUCH MUCH cheaper than ANY US Private school full pay. |

They used to, I agree. But now there is a good reason to learn free of governmental influence in other countries. Interest in Canada/Uk/Ireland has spiked at our private school starting last year. |
As a professor at an R1, I can tell you that international student are not nearly as interested in coming to the US anymore. The number of international applicants has nosedived with Trump 2.0. Who wants to come here when the federal government is cutting funding, making visas difficult to obtain, kidnapping brown people, and not doing a thing about gun violence? |
Your observation has not been born out at the undergraduate level. The number of foreign students is up 4.5%. https://www.highereddive.com/news/international-students-in-us-up-45-in-2024-25-but-warning-signs-loom/805614/ |
Tuition only |
Argue all you want. Show me on Private US university in the top 100 that is equivalent in total pricing for a degree to a school like Exeter or Warwick or Bristol or Durham ?? You wont be able to because it doesnt exist. |
Never heard of these besides Exeter. |
Lol this is what happens when a fake professor argues based on vibes instead of data. |
That is a you problem…..for such an uninformed person, what are you doing on this thread? |
