Voter ID is just common sense that falls well within the mainstream of public opinion, transcending party lines and demographics.

Polls consistently show overwhelming support: A recent CNN poll revealed that 85 percent of white Americans, 82 percent of Latinos, and 76 percent of black Americans favor requiring photo ID to vote.

And Democrat Elites continue to make up reasons to reject.

But that is a good one, so People are for the Save Act , but until they understand it like the Elites understand it , they will change their mind.

thank you for that morning chuckle.

I am not against voter ID; however, it is onerous to force people to go above and beyond to prove they are who they say they are. A Real ID should be sufficient to prove citizenship — if not, then the onus should be on the states to ensure everyone's Real ID shows this. A woman should not have to track down her marriage certificate(s) if she already has a Real ID.

The thing is, this is going to hurt the Red States more than the Republicans think it will. Older people are overwhelmingly Republican AND they vote — but putting the onus on 89 year old Matilda and 75 year old Gertrude to track down their marriage licenses and get a proper ID is going to limit their ability to vote in the end. All these old women will ultimately not vote because it’s going to be too difficult for them to manage it. Good luck, Republicans!

The thing is we can already tell you're angling for illegal votes when you start mentioning what party it is going to hurt more. It's high time to make our voting systems legitimate and not just in legislation, but in action. End the nonsense and excuses.

WDYM?

Our voting systems are legitimate and the envy of many parts of the world where despots stuff ballot boxes and report that "110% of X province" voted for the strong man.

So, please, end the nonsense and excuses.

The issue is that the United States does not have a voter fraud problem.

Then what’s the issue? If there’s no fraud, requiring ID won’t change anything.

How does one positively confirm a person matches a voter registration if they don't show an ID?

Please cite the number of times someone showed up to vote to discover someone had impersonated them and voted in their place.

(it doesn't happen, this is a non-issue)

Yes it does happen. Not only that, but people in the household are getting multiple ballots of people who don't even live in their house.

More than that, how do you have XX number of people in voter registration records with an address of a UPS store?

Don't tell us this stuff doesn't happen. It certainly does and it's in the news all the time. That you don't seek out alternative news feeds and only read ones that validate your worldview is not my fault. These are from state and local news reporting before you accuse anyone of a conspiracy.

Please provide the state and local news cites to substantiate these claims. If not, then you are just spewing talking points.

For over 200 years, until Trump, all of our elections were legitimate. It was only when Trump lost, that *all of the sudden* we have this massive "voter fraud issue" which magically went away in 2024 (when Trump and the GOP swept the elections) but somehow is critical to fix now (when Trump is going to get crushed in the midterms)

+1

Why ONLY mention 2020?

Never is 2024 mentioned, because obviously he WON. So if 2024 was a good election, maybe, maybe there is nothing to fix

Never again will I fall for these "reasonable" arguments for voter ID.

The only fair election as far as conservatives, GOP, and MAGA are concerned, is one where they WIN. Because they deserve it, they think

There is no evidence of substantive voter fraud. You're looking for a solution to a nonexistent problem. You want legitimate voter systems? Let's talk about getting rid of the electoral college. Make every vote matter.

This.
Trump is unable to accept that he was rejected in 2020 and the GOP has been pacifying him ever since. Such a waste when there are real issues congress should be addressing. Affordability, for example.

What illegal votes. The problem you are talking about is almost non-existent. The Cato institute looked into this and found that even in Fairfax county (which has a very large immigrant population) non-citizen voting is practically non-exisitent. Under the most pessimistic assumptions, non-citizen votes accounted for at most 1/10,000 votes cast in elections over a five year period. Non-citizen registered voters accounted for less than 1/5,000 voters and most of these people never voted at all. The non-citizens who registered mostly did by accident because the DMV registered them when they got their drivers license. The SAVE act is estimated to disenfranchise a minimum of 10 US citizens, but only 1/1,000 non-citizens are registering to vote. Does it really make sense to infringe on the rights of 10 million US citizens to vote, in order to ensure that 25,000 non citizens don't register to vote? This law would violate the rights of 400 US citizens for every one illegal voter registration it prevents. [u]

It is going to hurt more because MAGA is too stupid to figure it out and too poor to do anything about it.
