Right? They want to make it seem like the left is obsessed, but they are the ones who made it way more of an issue and "forced" people to go in the defensive.

Wrong. Dems are the ones fighting for males to enter women’s sports and lockers rooms.

Why are they fighting so hard for this?

I’m a Dem who struggles with this issue a bit. On one hand, I know a few trans people including a child one of my children has befriended. I don’t think that child should be kept out of sports.i am also aware that in my home state of Massachusetts, if a school doesn’t have a sport for boys or girls then the other sex can play that sport and it has been that way since 1970 when Title IX passed. Although a female friend of mine played ice hockey in the public high school (“a boy’s sport”) I didn’t know this was the law until recently. It just didn’t come up ever. Currently my 12 year old plays on her middle school’s ultimate frisbee team. There is just one team. If they had to make it all boys or all girls she presumably wouldn’t be allowed to play - the team is 30 boys and 2 girls.

On the other hand, I get where it sounds scary for boys or men to play certain sports with women (not from the locker room standpoint because, seriously, who would live life differently from the sex they were assigned at birth just to get into a locker room?!?) but from a strength standpoint. I feel like there are very few trans people as a potion of the population and then only a portion of those are men who would play sports. I also feel like it’s hard to know where to draw the line - like a trans man with hormone treatments might test lower for testosterone than some cis women. But those arguments don’t translate well to much of the population. I’m really confused why this has become a prevalent topic for either side - I think it’s a losing argument for Dems but mixed sports in public schools has been reality for 50 years and I don’t know why it’s an issue now.

We like trans rights, including the right for people born male to compete in women's sports. We like this for four reasons:
1) It marks us as special, as high class. Again, less affluent Dems aren't as into this stuff as we are.
2) It's a great way to punish right wingers, religious types, soccer moms from red states and red suburbs/exurbs
3) It's a great way to drive Republicans crazy and make them say homophobic and transphobic things. It helps us cement our ownership of LGBTQIA+ voters.
4) For the really senior insiders among us, the ones who are happy enough working with powerful Republicans toward shared goals, issues like this help keep the public's attention off bigger issues

"struggling single gals"?

Sit down, boomer.

LOL. I wrote this post, and I'm no boomer! I do look at actual voter breakdowns instead of just "feeling" that my political party consists of mostly impressive fancy people like dcurbanmoms.

And the facts are:
a) the group with the highest propensity, by far, to vote for our party is unmarried women
b) unmarried women have lower incomes on average than married people or unmarried men
Yes, around here we have plenty of affluent single girlbosses. But nationwide most unmarried women are not that affluent.

These "struggling single gals" are a key part of our base. Single gals vote 70% Dem. And the poorer they are the MORE they vote Dem. The only other demographic we do that well in is African-Americans.

One of the reasons the richest Democrats are supportive of men in women's sports is because we are clueless about how the rest of our party really feels. The average Democrat is WAY less supportive of "trans folks" on the girls swim team than people around here are.

"single girlbosses"?

You are a misogynist POS, boomer wannabe. Sit TF down.

And here our party leaders are, "fighting" to protect those big strong boys in fake pigtails who are out there breaking girls' noses and stealing their sports trophies. All of these people, are they the same ones eating the cats and dogs?

Do you think that it was the mind control chips in the vaccines?

There is no national issue for reality based people. You are just a rube.

It’s an invented problem, just like everything Trump does.

Look, I solved a problem that I made up, worship me!

Because these Republican fckers tested out various campaign wedge issues and found that transgender kids in sports triggered people the most.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/03/us/politics/kentucky-transgender-school-sports.html

ARLINGTON, Va. — From the 12th floor of a glass office tower in the Washington suburbs, a campaign to sway the governor’s race in Kentucky on Tuesday is being waged with an alarmist claim that has little to do with the race itself: If Democrats have their way, soon boys will be able to compete against girls in school sports.

This scenario, presented in a pair of ads that are appearing on computer screens and smartphones across Kentucky, is the work of a little-known group funded by anonymous donors called the American Principles Project, which in recent years has focused on fighting more familiar clashes in the culture wars over same-sex marriage and abortion rights.

The group is limiting its work to Kentucky for now, but strategists say it has bigger ambitions. It is effectively running a pilot program for the 2020 election that will help it determine how it could use the debate over transgender rights to rally conservative voters in support of President Trump.

The results could inform what type of campaigns social conservatives run in the future — and answer whether the delicate and deeply personal questions around gender identity are the next major wedge issue in American politics or, as recent experience suggests, something that most voters and politicians would rather not see politicized.

Terry Schilling, executive director of the American Principles Project, said conservative groups that focus on social issues other than abortion have been shying away from politics — and losing ground in recent years. “What we’re doing is trying to show Republicans how to win on these key issues,” he said.

In its polling, it found that messages about bathrooms barely moved voters toward Mr. Bevin. But when shown the wrestler ad and others with a similar message, voters were more likely to swing toward Mr. Bevin by a margin of about four to seven points. The swing was most notable among voters over 65.

Mr. Cannon said that emphasizing children in sports made the case stronger because it focused on “the idea that you are taking something away from people. And that’s where they don’t like it.

Republicans don't have a legit platform; they just manipulate and feed off of peoples' irrational fears.

Data from a January 2025 New York Times/Ipsos survey shows that 79% of Americans oppose allowing biological males who identify as women to compete in women’s sports. In a political climate where the overwhelming majority favors this restriction, overtly aligning yourself with transgender athletes—say, by dancing at drag shows or vocally pushing back against these restrictions—can be perceived as out of step with mainstream views. In other words, such public displays may hurt your image by associating you with a stance held by only a minority of voters, potentially undermining your broader appeal.

Ok. The governing bodies of these sports should take up the issue.

They have. Under Biden the NCAA insisted that biological males who identify as women can and WILL compete in women's sports. Now that Trump is President, they have backed down. They did a complete 180 within just a few months. The NCAA is downstream from political power. All the NCAA universities depend heavily on federal funds. So they do what the bosses want, not what is best for sports or athletes or education.

There's nothing bigoted about protecting girls sports from unfair competition from biological males or former biological males. 90% of Americans want girls sports protected. By your standards, both existing parties are parties for bigots, and trans activists and their supporters are the only "good" Americans left. Maybe you should start a new party, the trans purity party. Girls bathrooms, locker rooms, and sporting fields are for anyone who wants them, no matter how thickly muscled and mustachioed.

Bigots are the people who are constantly pushing this fake issue 24x7. How many times have you posted about it this week? And it's only Monday...

GTFO, bigot trash. Go join the Republicans - you're already doing the work for them.
