Why did Arab majority Deerborn, Michigan go for Trump?

But they obviously realize that a Trump administration would be just as supportive of Israel. I would assume that they would go with the candidate who belongs to a party that has a significant faction of people opposed to supporting Israel, which is non-existent in the Republican party. Can anyone help me make sense of this?

Biden and Harris have spent 13 months slaughtering Arabs, dehumanizing them and funding/engagement in the largest scale decimation of the population in decades. Guardian estimates 300K dead, 80% of which are women and children. Why in the name of God would anyone vote for a party that has dehumanized them to such an extent and told them that their lives mean nothing? DH and I have only voted D in our lives. First time ever that we have not. Dems are monsters. Will Trump be better? Maybe not but all he has to do is not commit genocide and he is already a better president than Joe Biden.

I voted Stein, as did my DH, but the vast majority of our family either flipped to Trump, stayed home, or went Stein. I know only 2 Arabs who continued with Harris.

if someone shot your children in the head, would you vote for them - even if the other candidate was Trump?

Genocide is the red line.

I'm not Arab, but I am Muslim and a Harris voter, and I think the scapegoating of this tiny and victimized population is disgusting. Shame on the Democratic establishment.

But that money going to Israel was largely because of Trump’s 10-year agreement with them, which doesn’t expire until 2028. He also gave them the largest increase in history. Why isn’t Trump being blamed for the $$? I also fear for the safety of Palestinians here in the US.

Yeah he's not blameless. My problem is the scapegoating of minorities when it is white men and women who have continuously supported Trump in the largest numbers.

But their narrative fed that white vote, which is inherently racist. You can’t deny that either.

But you taught the Democrats a lesson. LOL!

We’ll see.

you do realise that it was basically completely peer pressured, huge consequences for anyone in america to ever say anything other than i am a zionist. I know, im a muslim who is a zionist in that i believe and support an Israeli state should exist free from harrasment and fear of attack from its neighbors. im also against the occupation of WB and Gaza, but i couldnt say the last part, it was a huge taboo to refer to Israel as an occupying power or anything other than a deserved respite for holocaust survivors and purveyor of hummus and falafel. I have been shocked at how quickly that taboo has lifted in the past year, it wont be any big change for the taboo to be enforced again. We have never had 1st amedment rights re:Israel. these kids have broken a huge taboo.

i had never heard of the nakba, i had read alan and naomi and number the stars in 4th grade though. I thought the arabs were mean for not giving some land to the European jews, it never occurred to me that these peopel have literaly been fighting each other for 3000 years since Abraham had a grandson named Jacob and his progeny decided that all of Canaan belonged to them and all the rest of abrahams kids needed to skedaddle. if you read the OT and early muslim history it becomes evident that the children of Jacob are hellbent on taking the whole inheritence and Esaus kids, Ismail's kids and Midians kids need to die. All of these people believe in this similar origin story of abraham teh Patriarch and his offspring and are from this area of the wordl and tehy have been fighting since before Moses even coined Hebrew as a term. All the peopel who belive in thsi myth were not jews, despite what Bill clinton remembers from sunday school 1958, the jews are only the children of one of Abraham's grandkids, he had a lot more grandkids and the rest of them are called Arabs now, they also used to be called samaritans but now they are called Arabs.

What are you responding to? The “we’ll see” was in response to “ It will soon be de facto illegal to publicly criticize Israel without being threatened with deportation for anyone who lacks solid birthright citizenship going back several generations.”. Do you really think the incoming president is going to make it illegal to criticize Israel??

It's literally been proposed and is legislation in many states. The ADL has even changed their definition of anti-Semitism to include criticism of Israel.

Which states?

You don’t get it. You may never get to vote again. You were manipulated by Russia and China to vote third party to destroy America. Trump is not a normal candidate. He has proudly said he’ll be a dictator.

THIS is the kind of thing that makes my liberal self start being anti-immigration. Don’t flee your dangerous, unstable countries with few rights to come here and vote to take away our rights and make us less safe and stable.

You live in make believe land, comrade.

DP. You don’t think this will inevitably loop in legal immigrants? That means they wouldn’t be able to vote again in the US. I can’t see how that won’t happen in massive round ups.

I do not.

I guess we did. No Muslim ban protests this time, guess we were not good allies. But wishing the best of luck to the campus guys on taking their protests to the new admin.

You’re such a piece of sh!t, honestly.

Nope. Muslims did not care about the rest of us with this vote, this much is clear. So please do tell, why are we supposed to care about this now. And yes, the pro Palestine protests need to find their new target now. If they dare, under the new regime. But something tells me they will be quiet.

Well, now you know how they felt when they went to vote.

Be ashamed as Dems that you kept quiet and then have the nerve to attack the very people who've gone through hell this past year due to Dems in power.

Way to pretend you're different from Republicans as you ignore that white women don't seem to care about fellow women, yet you expect a very small group (who couldn't stop Harris from losing. Millions didn't want her) to take the fall for her loss. Not enough what the Dems have done to kill people, but now want to blame them for Harris losing when Latinos and white women seems to LOVE Trump.

This is such karma for Dems. What a dreadful party of warmongering, hateful filth.

And spare us the Trump fearmongering. As I said a while back: We know who Trump is and he's your punishment for your showing who you truly are, Dems. Such evil on the left. To psychotically blame a small group already attacked and marginalized for DECADES while once again absolving and ignoring white women who told other women "F-off"

A mere 4 days ago, could we ever have imagined some Democrats would lash out so angrily against a marginalized minority group? Shocking.

You two are really leaning into victimhood. No one here has said they’re solely responsible for the loss. The title of this post is about this specific groups rationale for their vote. Every other thread on the forum is filled with anger toward white people and Latinos and union workers and others who voted for trump.

Oh, they told us. And they called us hysterical or something. I guess that hysteria was useful to them when we stood up for them during the Muslim ban, but not anymore. Leppard, faces etc. etc. They're on their own

Dead is dead, you can't get worse than that. Biden killed them. There is a glimmer of hope with Trump.

It is unrealistic to expect a political party to appease a tiny voting bloc at the expense of losing far more voters than they gained from other, much larger, voting blocs.

That may seem cynical. But that's democracy in the US.

This sort of thing only works in parliamentary systems where coalition governments sometimes are formed with tiny minority parties. The US winner-takes-all system was expressly designed to discourage this.

You’re proving that Arab and Muslim Americans were only important as votes to you and the Harris campaign. Stop pretending you ever cared more than that about them.

The argument of harm mitigation requiring a vote for Harris in Dearborn is pretty undercut watching (alleged) Democratic stalwarts cackle online unrepentantly about more people in the ME getting slaughtered.

Yet, this is the complaint about the Democrats from many voters. That they pander to certain minorities while ignoring the majority. The Dems need to appeal to common issues without regard to identity.
