But that is her leverage. She has never been anything but the dutiful wife. No scandals, cheating, etc. The people will not be on William's side and he knows this.

Maybe there's a standoff until he becomes reasonable. With Christmas and the New Years, lots of people have a realizations around that time. Them being royals doesn't mean their immune to these situations.

I tend to think it’s health related, not a marital issue because a divorce would eventually come to light and they’d be caught lying. Also, if they were in the middle of a marital issue, I think William would be going overboard with public appearances to try to improve/maximize his image for the inevitable divorce backlash. Rather than posting a badly photoshopped photo or Kate and the kids, he would have posted a happy family picture that included him:
