Prep has a pretty weak 2025 class as does Gonzaga and even SJC.

As for the 2026 class, albeit that it’s very early predict what varsity rosters could look like in two years or how current freshman will pan out, SJC has a stellar 2026 class.

Still going with Bullis to have the best team this coming spring!

Doesn’t matter if SJC has the best 2026 class, I don’t think Speaks will be there by the time those kids are seniors.

He was very close to going over to Georgetown Prep this off season

BS. Already working on the 27 class. Gonzaga folks are trying to interfere with his recruiting by putting these rumors out there. Not working.

Different poster, but this is true re Prep. He was super close this year to jumping. And of course he would still recruit 27’s, cause they are no guarantees in this coaching business. He’s a smart guy. Has to play it straight.

I actually think he’ll jump to a boarding school at some point, and not Prep.

Best 25 class is Bullis by light years, but look for a handful of schools to have strong 25 classes at SSSAS, Landon and PVI. Just not the same depth as Bullis with its DCE connections. Agree on 26 being a strong year for St J and Prep, but no freshman is going to be impactful for WCAC and IAC. They are just too deep with sophomores - seniors.

I got to watch the '25 Bullis FOGO at the UA tryouts. He's going to be trouble for everyone for the next 3 years.

You mean the FOGO that cost them the win in the GEICO match? Kid has some serious anger issues.

That's the one. Gave a kid a concussion at Nike too.

How does a FOGO cost a team a win? What happened?

This kid sounds like a nightmare. College coaches will get wind of this, if true, and it will have negative effects on his future. A mediocre fogo with anger issues will not go over well.

This is all ridiculous. Get a grip people. No administration in the area cares that much to go after a coach from a school that buys their players.

You must be a SJC booster but it was kept in the dark that Speaks almost jumped ship over to Georgetown Prep this summer.

Urick won’t be at Prep for another year or two

Buying players? Does that stand for offering scholarships? Trying to figure out what local private school that cares about their sports isn’t offering tuition help and housing for some. Please clarify. I know first hand that Landon, Prep, Bullis and even Episcopal offer tuition help help to players. St. John’s and Gonzaga do the same. If your son was recruited by any of these schools you would know what they put on the table to sway you. Not even getting into what the MIAA schools offered.

SJC was/is giving scholarships/financial aid at a much higher amount and to more players. Which is fine. Other schools offer aid but not to as many players and at a lower amount. Schools can decide to offer more aid or not. I don't see a problem here.
The only issue SJC may encounter is over-recruiting and players/families becoming upset due to lack of playing time.

How could you have any idea of what they give unless you happen to be in admissions and financial aid at SJC as well as all the other schools.

When different schools are recruiting the same player, the family lets the other schools know what the competing offer is. You don't need to work in Admissions to get that information. Also, parents love to share how much they are receiving from a school in financial aid/scholarship money.

I know of two families at SJC who looked at a few rival schools, including where our son is currently at.

When SJC offers scholarships that are $20K more in aid than what Georgetown Prep or Gonzaga might offer to the same family, it's hard to compete.

Recruiting is recruiting. Offering athletic scholarships is offering athletic scholarships. Cant complain about St. John’s if your school is doing the same thing. No matter the amounts being offered.
Anonymous
Let's clear the water here. Every IAC team 100% gives athletic scholarships. Of the top WCAC lacrosse teams, the top 4 (SJC, GZ, PVI, & DM) all do the same, and I assume that Good Counsel will start doing the same with the new Head Coach. Heights+bottom tier WCAC probably do not.

Case in point, you can deny it all you want, but the reality is that your son's school offers $$$$$!
Anonymous
That sounds more logical and makes more sense.

I hate to break it to some of you. The coaches aren't the problem. SJC, Prep, GZ, Bullis all have great coaches and staffs! Most are local guys and have deep roots here in the DMV.

Parents are nuts if they want to blame these coaches. It stinks and it is driving coaches away from youth sports in droves.

These programs are lucky to have the men they have. All these guys want to do is coach and be on the field.

Kids are too soft and activist parents aren't helping. Just my two cents. Thanks to all the coaches out there. You may be massochists but most of us really appreciate what you do for these young men and the sport.

Why would he do that? He is already committed. Were the other parents that approached Speaks also parents of committed players?

Do not understand the drama in your kids’ senior year when already committed. These parents must be pieces of work.

What don’t you understand? Simple. They want to win.
