Kiss and Ride on rainy days

Please stop the insanity people. Your children are not going to die waiting for a bus in some rain. Buy them some umbrellas and rain boots and send them on their way.

And no, I'm not a hypocrite - I walk my child to school daily.

why do you care?

I took my kids this morning because we were up late watching the SuperBowl. Weather had no bearing. Go Seahawks!!!!!!!!

It was the first time we let them stay up past halftime. Go Seahawks!!!!!!!!

I care because it creates a traffic nightmare in our neighborhood, makes walking even less safe than before, school has to be delayed for all the students who were late because it takes half an hour sitting in their cars and it is just one more example of the ridiculous coddling of our children.

Yes, I get that it is the Monday after the Super Bowl, but this happens EVERY SINGLE TIME it rains.

We drove today because a certain younger sibling freaked out this morning, causing older child to miss the bus. It had nothing to do with the rain. Unless there are some underlying meteorological explanations to the freak out...

I'm guessing the parents with kids to young to stand alone at the busstop don't feel like standing in a terrential downpour.

I drive everyday---mainly because my kids sleep until 8am or 8:15 (no matter how early they go to bed) and our bus comes at 8:19. We are 0.65 miles from the school and it is a 5 min drive--10 min walk. School time is 9am--by not taking the bus we get an extra 30 min in which they would be just sitting in a line not being able to talk in our school's multipurpose room.

My child had to carry a musical instrument and I wasn't sure if heavy rain could get into the case and damage the instrument.

This is a torrential downpour? Have you ever actually SEEN a torrential downpour?

This does NOT qualify...

Some of the people on this thread are seriously PMS'ing.

I suggest counting to 10, taking a few deep breaths and realizing that all of this is really small in the bigger picture.

Us too.

We would rather have a relaxing morning and drive than the alternative.

Why do you care OP? If you walk, none of this affects you.

Honestly, I thouht that this was going to be a rant by a regular driver about how the people who only drive on rainy days don't follow the kiss and ride rules, drop of in the wrong spot, don't let the busses through and cut in and out of line. That would have justified making a post over this.

BtW, shput out to our principal. On nasty days like this he sends the teachers inside and he runs the kiss and ride line. Goes for the frigid days too.

Very classy boss.

OP, you clearly walk from the other side of the school. On our side, the sidewalks flood with about 4 inches deep for a 6x10 foot patch of water, mud and sludge every time it rains even a little.

I don't know of anyone on our side of the neighborhood who doesn't drive their kids in when it rains. The drainage makes it impossible and no one wants their kids to spend the day muddy and wet up to their knees.

How is sitting in a kiss and ride line for 30 minutes relaxing?

And yes, as a walker, it DOES affect me. The traffic situation in our neighborhood and near our school is truly bad enough. Our school is too large as it is (we have over 1000 students). Adding all the extra people to the roads who just can't be bothered to put their kids on a bus in the rain creates a seriously dangerous situation for everyone.

Not to mention, the busses wind up sitting in the traffic because of the design of the roads - there truly is only one way in and one way out of our school.

By being selfish, you really are messing up everyone's day. Although, I do get a little bit of a kick out of walking past all of you that I passed on my way to the school STILL sitting in traffic on my way back.

You know, chocolate really does help with severe PMS and mood swings.

We never sit for 30 minutes. Even on the most crowded days it is 10 minutes tops. We do kiss and ride at two schools. One is around 600 kids. The other around 1000.

The K&R is a 5 minute drive away, With the routing they use, the bus ride is 45 minutes. We drop them off and we all get 35 minutes extra sleep. Until they figure out how to route busses we'll bring them to school. Rain, shine, or snow (if they'll open)
