Been looking at Blair High School and noticed that the principal Renee Johnson is tweeting a lot about herself. She is tweeting that she was awarded best principal and then retweeting tweets from other people who congratulated her.
It is sad to see a principal who is so hell bent on self promotion. See the tweets at https://twitter.com/blairprincipal. I don't see other principals doing this much self promotion, at least my HS principal doesn't. |
Sounds like they have a great principal who recently got an award. One who uses social media. Congrats to Renay Johnson! No personal affiliation to her or Blair HS.
I believe you misspelled her name judging from her twitter account. Also, if you remove the period from the link above, it works. |
Hey now!! So, we measure how "great principals" are by their use of social media? The union gave her an award. How does that prove anything about her being great? |
Are you that Poolesville poster yet again? |
All MCPS principals now use twitter to communicate. Superintendent Starr also. I find the stuff put out by MCPS on Twitter to be kind of moronic, shallow and self-promotional. But, Twitter is a part of life and does have it's uses ….. |
None of the successful school principals seem to be getting awards.
I think that these awards means something deeper and it usually means they are trying to prop up somebody. In this case all it proves is that Renay Johnson (correct spelling) kisses up to that union. It means didlly squat about what she is doing for kids. |
+1000. My point exactly. |
13:03 here - I was congratulating Johnson (again, no affiliation, but was curious if you had any grounds for bashing her) on the award. I don't really care if it's a union award or not (I am fairly neutral about teacher's unions & figure that if they picked someone from the entire county to win an award, it's probably a measure of merit - unlike your derisive, she's-a-self-promoter comment which has no basis other than some apparent luddite fear of modern technology). I hope she is also on instagram since all of her students are on both those platforms. While I don't think that social media prowess is proxy for bring a great administrator, I do think that parent and student engagement matter and a quick glance at her twitter feed shows she engages in positive ways with both. So, again, congrats to Principal Johnson! |
I don't understand you. Are you saying that anything about Blair you don't like means boosting Poolesville? It seems that you think Poolesville is a huge competitor for Blair. Get over it-----------IT IS NOT. Those zoned for Poolesville can't go to Blair and those zoned for Blair cannot attnd Poolesville. Blair has nothnig to do with Poolesville and Poolesville has nothing to do with Blair. |
Seriously? She engages with people who seem to have something to promote. Little evidence of concrete engagement. My DS' principal is very accessible and engaging. Doesn't need social media and self promotion. |
SIGH. Do successful male principals get bashed for "self-promotion" when they win awards? I don't think so. And if you don't have any specific complaint about the Blair principal's administrative skills, why do you care if she's an effective communicator using modern media tools? |
Only if they go around tweeting about their awards. |
As opposed to all of the other stuff on Twitter? The whole point of Twitter is to be moronic, shallow, and self-promotional. |
Let's at least be accurate. It's not a union. It's the local affiliate of the National Board Certified Teachers Network, an organization that advocates for standards in the profession. We crossed paths with Renay Johnson years ago when she was principal at Takoma Park MS. She was a dynamic administrator and the TPMS magnet thrived under her leadership. I am not at all surprised she won an award. As for her use of social media, it makes her a great role model for her CAP students. |
I crossed paths with Johnson at TPMS and didn't feel the way you did. She pandered to some parents and was downright hostile to others.
From waht I've heard she has taken that philosophy to Blair. I am not surprised that her supporters think her use of social media is a "great role model for CAP students." The bad English certainly supports the theory that standards are going down. Seriously, don't think lauding Johnson as a role model makes Blair programs, particularly CAP attractive to anyone. |
