GreatSchools Ratings Downgrade for Top FFX Schools

Anonymous
I never put much stock in GreatSchools ratings, but was nevertheless very surprised to recently see that the site's "new" rating system has resulted in a significant downgrade in the overall rating given to traditionally top Fairfax County public high schools (Langley, McLean, Woodson, Madison, Oakton, Marshall, etc.) For example, apparently McLean High School, now a 7, is on par with Annandale, Falls Church, Edison, etc.? So much for those who argued that GreatSchools was completely objective.

Maybe McLean has dropped because it has dropped.

I am long on record as saying everyone should just completely disregard GS. Nothing about the "new" rating system changes my mind about that.

No one takes GS seriously.

Every school has dropped. I just checked a handful of ES and HS.

Although maybe this can finally put an end to the squabbling between Arlington and McLean.

Langley is still the best , makes sense because everything was a 9

Lake Braddock is still an 8. Some of the surrounding elementary schools have dropped from high numbers (8/9) to 7's.

I don't fully understand the Great Schools rating process. Never have. FFX County schools with competitive academics can receive 7 ratings while schools in states w/o strong state standards, mediocre curriculum can get a 10 from Great Schools.

lol you know the rating are absolute crap- they bumped the
worst school in va ( jefferson Houston) up to a 4 overnight.

Arlington was down graded as well. The standings are the same.

This is hilarious they rate tj a 7 and on the awards section it says #1 school in Virginia.

Something is not correct

WTF?

They dropped all the schools in our area down from 9s & 10s to 7s and one 8, seemingky overnight.

It appears they did this across the board for Fairfax County.

This must be an error. Haw anyone sent them feedback?

Have the Arlington schools dropped in a similar fashion?

Great schools is not very accurate.

That is hilarious about TJ.

Has anyone checked the MD high rated schools?
