How stiff are you?

Your joints or muscles? When getting up in the morning, or from a chair? Do you ache ever, sometimes, all the time? Just wondering how bad off some others are.

All the time. Arthritis kicking in. Hate it and really worrying about the future.

Working with a personal trainer now to attack this. UGH!

If I have been sitting for a while I am very stiff when I get up. It's embarrassing at work when all the younger people take off down the hall after a meeting and I'm limping along behind them. My muscles usually loosen up after a couple of minutes and then I am okay. I'm 55.

I was having a lot of problems but it turned out I was Vitamin D deficient and gluten intolerant. Now I feel fine!

I am also low on vitamin D. Here's the kicker. I can't take the D3 supplements - my throat starts to close! Turns out, D3 is made from lanolin, and if you have wool allergies…

I can take Centrum adult chewables with no Vitamin D reaction, so that will have to suffice. I've also been advised by my derm that when the weather warms, go out in the sun for 20 minutes or so without sunscreen. Not enough to cause skin issues but enough to allow natural Vit. D production.

Even 5 minutes of yoga/stretching in the AM helps if you can squeeze it in.

Vitamin D can be prescribed PP in the D2 form, if you are found to be deficient.
For me, yoga and stretching before a warm up is so aggravating to my pain, I avoid it.
I get less stiff as the day goes on, but I can't stay in any one position too long, or I get really stiff.

Misleading title. Still clicked anyway. Ah well.

Used to have sore knees and thought it was arthritis and then I started doing stretching exercises for my back and the soreness in my knees went away. I work out a lot and stretch some (but not often enough) and I feel pretty good. I know that won't be the case for everyone who works out but I would suggest giving exercise a try.

Can you describe the stretching exercises you did?

I couldn't find one image that shows everything I do but I do some of the exercises in these illustrations. If you google "back exercises," you'll see a lot of options. I was completely surprised by this. I was doing ibuprofen all the time and assuming that since my orthopedist told me I had arthritis in the knee he did surgery on that I must be experiencing the wear and tear of getting older. But it's just because I wasn't stretching in the right places!
