Used to have sore knees and thought it was arthritis and then I started doing stretching exercises for my back and the soreness in my knees went away. I work out a lot and stretch some (but not often enough) and I feel pretty good. I know that won't be the case for everyone who works out but I would suggest giving exercise a try.
Can you describe the stretching exercises you did?
I couldn't find one image that shows everything I do but I do some of the exercises in these illustrations. If you google "back exercises," you'll see a lot of options. I was completely surprised by this. I was doing ibuprofen all the time and assuming that since my orthopedist told me I had arthritis in the knee he did surgery on that I must be experiencing the wear and tear of getting older. But it's just because I wasn't stretching in the right places!
