| Why on EARTH???!!! |
|
I am beyond furious. Took off work today and will be late tomorrow... And morning SACC is happening, so it's not as though the buildings won't be open. I understand it's probably a bus issue--so open the cafeteria for kids whose parents can drive them and just show a G-rated movie for a couple hours.
Total BS. |
| My kid is in SACC which is open at the usual time (and she gets there early when it opens), but my younger kid's school follows FCPS which means he can't go until 9am. I have a rescheduled dental appt at 7am downtown (we live in Springfield) that had been rescheduled from the last snow storm in December and I'd just had foot surgery. Argh. |
| Geez. I could really use the time with my morning class too. I'm surprised. It must be bus issues. |
So, school is for babysitting? |
|
So sorry that all of you who use school as free babysitting are annoyed. I'm getting pretty sick of you all whining. I'm sure that there is a very good reason why school will be starting late....think of all those kids who have to walk or wait for long periods at the bus stop. Or the kids who are in trailers ALL DAY LONG who have to walk to the main building to go to the bathroom.

PP, you beat me to the punch! I just posted about this. |
I cannot stand all of these people who say people are using school for babysitting. That's not it. People arrange childcare assuming that school will be in session absent some emergency. 2o degree weather is not an emergency. Some of us have to be at work and have commitments. It's not using school as babysitting to assume it will start on time absent extreme circumstances. By the way, I have an au pair, so it doesn't matter to me. I just get frustrated that some don't get why this is a hardship for others. |
| No, school is not for babysitting, PPs. I don't send my kids to school for babysitting. I send them to school to be taught by teachers. Not sure why they couldn't go to school today to learn, and not sure why they can't start on time tomorrow. |
Thank you. Well stated. I don't have a full-time babysitter just sitting around on the off chance that it might be too cold for school. Some of us have to work and aren't particularly thrilled about burning through our leave for this. I tend to hoard all my leave for my kids' occasional sicknesses. |
| I can't believe PP who expected her school to open on time and just let kids sit in the cafeteria and watch a movie because she and her partner cannot manage to take care of her kids. School is not for babysitting; it is for learning. If it is not open for learning it is not open. Pay for morning SACC if you can't manage the two hour delays. |
| How about finding a stay at home mom and paying her to watch your kids on days like this? Everyone should have some type of plan. What do you do when your child is sick? |
| Would you rather have your kids waiting at the school bus in the cold for a broken down bus that is running thirty minutes late? Or give the extra time to be sure that everything is on time? |
I have plans for when there are extenuating circumstances ... like illness. NOT for freakin 20 degree weather! SMH. |
| Well, you better get a plan instead of just complaining. |
