I've been pointing this out for a while. What 8th grade coach wants to roster a grade older player thats wont play with your team for 3-4 months during HS soccer season. On top of that they'll probabaly skip games for things like homecoming, prom, etc.

But dont let reality get in the way of wanting to play down a grade.
Makes no sense, no school's 8th grade team has HS playing for them.

Welcome to the other side of the coin after changing from BY to SY. Under SY some Aug and younger players might be freshman in HS but eligible to play on an 8th grade team. Its the opposite of a trapped player. As you can see there is one person commenting here who is very excited for players to play down in SY. You never saw this in BY because everyone is forced to play with their grade or up a grade.

You are stupid. It is a 12-month age group. Grade is not part of the rule. It is the Aug player's personal choice whether he wants to play UP in the older age group, and he must be accepted by the older age group coach. Nobody is playing down. Only the biobanding players who play in the next 12-month group are playing down. If you want to shame someone who plays down, that is your target, not the Aug. players.

Soccer as a sports is grouped by your age, not your grade. A genius might go to school early and by your definition, he is playing down. If you play in your age group, you are not playing down. If you play in the younger age group, you are playing down. If Junior plays in the Frosh team, then he is playing down. Obviously, nobody wants to do it.

I want to THANK YOU PERSONALLY for killing an entire thread. I used to check here often, but it's turned into complete crap because you can't stop. I know you won't care, but you single handedly derailed a national thread about an important topic because you just can't stop. I won't be back here until MLSN announces or we get some "special" carve outs/exemptions. Have a great holiday weekend and I hope you relish in the fact you are this annoying.
It's too late for extraneous rules on player registration for Fall 2026. Clubs are already lining up tryouts and teams and leagues and clubs need runways for changes to the database.

This will better allow clubs to address individual situations and give flexibility for a solution that is in the best interest of the player and teams.

Someone posted on this thread that ECNL was talking about allowing 80-90 min playing time cap for league games which would allow kids to play for multiple teams next year. Could have been on the original thread but someone definitely posted that.

Pay attention, 8th grade soccer doesn't play under BY or SY, it plays using grades.

Pay attention college recruiters care about grade in school.

And 8th grade coaches who dont want to roster 9th grade players + lose them part of the year to HS soccer.
Pointless comment. 8th grade is school soccer. HS kids get to play on HS teams not 8th grade teams. Pay attention.

Such a loser. Ignore it all you want but over time coaches wont want players playing down a grade in school on their teams.

Some agree grad year it is!? Let’s start holding our kids back.

Possible next Spring, as Q3/Q4 players will start to practice with the younger group before the tryout. It will make sense if they can play on both teams.

Whoever is posting is compleley unhinged.

Not only are they responding to their own posts. Now to try an "win" arguements they're posting as the people they dont agree with.

Leagues will add a rule to SY 8/1-7/31 that says players must play with their grade in school.

Either Leagues or clubs internally will add a rule saying players must play with their grade in school. No A team coach will want to waste their time with a player thats playing down a grade. They have enough grade correct players competing for roster spots.

Maybe changes for Fall 2027, probably not. But way too late for Fall 2026 to switch from SY to GY.

Nobody is promoting GY but you at ECNL showcases.

Its SY 8/1-7/31 with a rule that players must play on their grade team. Which primarily means younger players of a certain grade cant play down a grade on the team below them.

As others have pointed out to you, that is GY and club soccer is age based. It is too late for your personal scheme to advantage your girl next year. Better luck the following year.

Because there are NO 8th grade coaches in club soccer. It's currently either u14 OR 2012.

Theres no benefit or issue for my kid either way.

SY 8/1-7/31 with a rule that players must play with their grade in school is not GY because older players are not allowed to play down. The oldest any player can be is 8/1 of that year. As multiple people have told you multiple times.

Keep fighting it. It doesnt matter.

People that actually make decisions about rosters wont wont 9th grade players playing down on 8th grade teams.

And nobody will want an older grade player playing down on their team when recruiting starts happening.

Why do you think the other poster is fighting so hard against this type of rule? It seems pretty normal that leagues, clubs, most parents, and most players would want everyone on a team to be the same grade in school.
