William seems like a yeller and Charles seems like a plotter. Both petty and insecure but not really that similar.

And you seem weirdly invested in these people. Pages and pages of bashing and criticism. Get over it.

You’d actually have to follow royal news more often to understand this one. The courtiers are the ones that plan out the schedules and for the last year or so have been trying to carry on more or less as if the Queen is still in her 70s. No one finds it surprising that a 95 year old woman who lost her husband last year, suffered a medical issue that landed her (secretly) in the hospital in the fall and then had a bout of covid this spring is getting old and doesn’t feel up to her job duties, we’re surprised that the royal powers that be are admitting it.

Charles is going to have pull Eugenie, Zara and Beatrice in or that entire family is tagged out.

I guess I don’t get how he can do that. There’s no carrot or stick. He seems unwilling to commit to financially providing for non heirs. And does not seem particularly close to his nieces. Why would they devote time working for Charles when they should be working to secure their future? I don’t even see the York sisters staying in the UK long-term. Charles isn’t going to make them full-time working royals because of their father and unlike Zara their royal parent has no actually property. Given how disastrous the Caribbean tour was maybe he can scrap royal tours by anyone but him and get the Cambridges to do more of the domestic stuff. George will be in boarding school soon and the other two will be in full time school. They could do 2-3 charity visits a day and that would only be a few hours each day.

This is true but as monarch he'll have a lot more funding to access. The Queen has $85 million in 'disposable' income a year to allocate for everything from upkeep on her estates to hiring private secretaries to housing third cousins. Its how she pays for the 70-year-old Duke and Duchess of Gloucester to live or Prince and Princess Michael of Kent to have palace apartments.

Zara and Peter live in small houses on their mother's estate. Beatrice and Eugenie live in tiny palace apartments/cottages with 3 bedrooms. They all have more kids and expanding families, respectively 3 kids for Zara, 2 kids (+2 stepkids for Peter), 2 kids for Beatrice, and 1 kid for Eugenie, while none of them have jobs to afford the standard of living they're accustomed to as well as the private schooling and tutoring their kids will need.

They'd jump on it if the older generation died off and they were given the 5+ bedroom homes they're living in. Wouldn't cost Charles a cent more than his mother was already spending.

For example Princess Alexandra of Kent is 85 years-old and lives in the 6-bedroom Thatched House Lodge by herself

DP. They just think it would be the worst thing in the world if she were seen in public in a wheelchair.

It’s weird, isn’t it? Kind of lightly horrifying ableism. It’s not 1438. Mobility aids don’t mean that God doesn’t favor you or anything.

It’s a real missed opportunity. I think it would be quite a powerful thing to do.

The BRF is the Queen of missed opportunities. IDK why anyone expects them to lean into the actual Queen's old age and maybe even show that its nothing to be ashamed of to the U.K.'s aging population.

This guy was a national hero ffs but the Queen is too good to be seen with a cane or wheelchair?

I haven't been following news of the lesser royals. Is Peter seriously involved with someone who already has kids? What step-kids are you referring to?

Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, is destined one day to be king. Determined to serve his country as his grandmother, the Queen has so selflessly done for seven decades, William is the epitome of a loving husband to Catherine, and a devoted father to their three children: George, Charlotte and Louis.

In public, William appears calm, balanced and determined. He is passionate about safeguarding the environment and helping to protect species under threat of extinction. The Duke and his wife have also worked tirelessly to remove the stigma that continues to mark mental health problems.

In private, however, those close to him say that William, while being a dedicated servant of the Crown can be volatile, defying his calm, family-guy public demeanour. It is also said that while William demands deference from royals of lower rank, he rarely shows it to those above him.

This is the definitive account – insightful and nuanced – of the life of the Duke of Cambridge as he approaches his milestone birthday. Jobson explores the complex character of the man who will one day reign as King William V. It is the story of the making of a king for our times.

Interesting. I don’t doubt that William is entitled, arrogant and even volatile. I am surprised, though, that he “rarely shows (deference) to those (ranking) above him.” Wouldn’t that small group only include the Queen, Prince Charles — who is financially supporting him, and Camilla? It’s hard for me to imagining William being less than deferential to the Queen. Or biting the hand that feeds him when it comes to his father and his father’s wife.

Why? He's human and he has a temper. Charles has always been a bit of a pussy. Soft, maleable, and an intellectual. The exact opposite of his always angry son. His relationship to William has never been described as close, just like everyone knows Phillip couldn't stand Charles because they were polar opposites.

Anyway add on to the fact that the entire world has a detailed narrative and video tapes of the caustic marriage between his parents and the fact that his mother is dead after being stripped of everything that makes him a royal...yeah, I can see him being an asshole to him.

Yes, Charles supports him but unlike Harry he can't have William walking out the palace with holes in his shoes.

Now multiple authors have talked about his temper and disrespect.

However, unearthed reports show that even the Duke of Cambridge can occasionally blow his lid, as highlighted by Robert Lacey in his 2020 book 'Battle of Brothers'.

After Camilla Parker Bowles married Charles in 2005, she was taken back by William's "temper", the author claimed.

"In the years after her 2005 marriage to Prince Charles, Camilla has recounted to her own family and close friends her surprise at discovering this unexpected side to Prince Charming - 'the boy's got a temper!'

"Charles's wife had been horrified at the ranting and raving that on occasion William had unleashed against her husband in her presence."

The same husband who openly cheated on and humiliated William’s beloved mother?

Beloved? Didn't he release a statement calling her crazy last summer?

William reminds me of a bipolar friend who is hot-and-cold depending on what he can get from you. And when he's angry with you...heaven help you.

He is. The same woman he broke lockdown rules for and got cited by police. She has two children and recently got divorced. He took her with him to Eugenie's christening.

Beatrice - 1 child
Eugenie - 1 child

I don't know where PP above was getting 2 kids. She has a step son who doesn't live with her full time.

Beatrice’s step-child requires a bedroom or do you expect him to sleep on the floor like a dog?

This is not news. The "royal powers that be" clearly aren't delusional or intending to deny reality. The Queen wanted to carry on full steam while she could. Everyone is clearly acknowledging that those days are over. Of course they are. Cycle of life, no bombshells here, and it is super weird of you to receive obvious news and spread it like it's a bombshell.

So neither of you is acquainted with any senior citizens who decline to use their mobility assistance devices when someone is watching? Pretty common, unfortunately. Old people have vanity, too, even thought the rest of us would prefer they not fall.

No. My grandparents either didn’t need them or preferred not to break bones. That goes beyond vanity into flat out stupidity especially north of 90 as the Q is.

Well then they were very sensible. But this is common. My point is that this is not a grand conspiracy and your insinuation that it is is flat out weird.

I really think that something is going to break with William at some point. It’s pretty clear that he has absolutely zero interest in doing royal work and he was allowed to chase away his brother who had been carrying their generation’s “burden” of royal work. One of the rumors I’ve heard about William back in the day was that he was threatening to pull and Uncle Edward and abdicate, hence the ridiculous lengths to keep him happy and appeased and not having to work.

George is ahead of Harry, as are Charlotte and Louis. I can’t envision their father giving it up and forcing it on one of his kids.
