How dare he say "the pizza crust was found outside and the murder took place inside the home"

All he keeps saying is Daron has no convictions. He desperately wants camera time. I'm turning.

In one of the articles, the lawyer says Wint was someone "you would feel safe having your grandmother go to lunch with."

I never knew why people hated Robin Ficker so much until now. I've joined the club.

I saw him on Megyn Kelly last night and can’t believe what a joke he is.
Yes, people have the presumption of innocence until proven guilty, but to call him a “nice guy” and to pretty much deny other crimes this scumbag has committed is over the top.
He gives lawyers a bad name.

"Ficker" means "f***er" in German. The name definitely fits this motherf***er. This is why people hate criminal defense lawyers - I know that our judicial system requires it, but it's sickening that this animal who tortured and burned a 10 year old will have someone fighting for his acquittal.

He's not an animal. He's doing his job. Defense attorneys are just as important as prosecutors, Nancy Grace.

So tell us, Johnnie Cochran, exactly how you would defend Daron Wint. Let me guess - he is not guilty by reason of insanity. He ate Twinkies and they made him crazy. He had a deprived childhood. It wasn't him, it was his brother. He didn't mean to kill any of these people - things just got out of hand.

He’s already said that the pizza crust (with his DNA) was found outside the house.
Ficker will probably say Wint was just “happening by,” saw some pizza, ate a slice, and tossed the crust aside.
Yeah, sure.

Why do you say this?
I think it is pretty good - compared to other countries.
The only thing I think is a bit unbalanced is that the criminal often seems to have more rights than the victims.

Exactly. More than a bit unbalanced.

You think people shouldn't have defense lawyers? Are you insane? What if, by some terrible mistake, this Wint person is actually innocent? What if YOU were accused of a horrific crime you didn't commit one day, and somehow there was evidence against you?

Some people on this board are so dumb I don't know how they function.

If there is more than one assailant, my defense strategy would be the point the finger at the other(s). Say I was there but I didn't do it, I was coerced or threatened to be there but didn't want to. If you are the only assailant, try to disprove you weren't there. It is up to the prosecution to prove the case, then you poke the holes. Either way, it sounds like the DNA evidence is solid, so then your strategy may just be to get life in prison and not the death penalty (we don't know yet whether a federal case with that could be maid, but assuming it could be).

His prior crimes cannot come into the trials to prove the likelihood he did this one. But it can be discussed at sentencing.

All you need is one wackadoodle juror, just one, to buy any doubt the defense throughs out. And you never know.....

This Ficker guy wants free publicity, so he's talking all sorts of crazy mumbo jumbo to anyone who will listen. He also probably wants to be the defense attorney for Wint.

How on earth would he know where the pizza cruse was found? He said he had not talked to the accused in 10 years. Did the police release infomration re where the pizza cruse was found?

First of all, I don't think that I will ever be accused of robbing, torturing, and murdering a family and their housekeeper and setting their home on fire. My DNA will never be found on a pizza crust at the crime scene. Secondly, I don't think that people shouldn't have defense lawyers - of course they should. That is what differentiates our judicial system from that of other countries. I just don't think criminal defense lawyers should make shit up to defend their guilty clients and fight for their release back into society to commit more crimes.

Yes, and his representation of the accused can set up the claim on appeal that the convicted felon had inadequate representation.

This. Sometimes all a criminal defense lawyer can do is try to get life in prison instead of the death penalty. Either way, the perpetrator is eliminated from society and everyone wins.

I had the same thought, and my next was that when all the money runs out, they would do something again to someone else to keep going as they were so far gone mentally it's not like they could just go back to the way things were. I am so glad, for multiple reasons, they are now in custody.

The part where you are wrong is where you state that defense lawyers shouldn't make shit up to defend their guilty clients, because their clients are innocent until proven guilty. It is the defense attorneys job to make sure that the accused get a fair trial, and to do that is to attack any and all evidence against his client. It is crucial to make sure that people accused of crimes are afforded an effective legal defense because if they do not, convictions can sometimes be overturned on the basis of incompetent counsel in an appeals courts.

So an effective legal defense may include lying? If I am a witness and I lie under oath, I am guilty of perjury which is a crime. Is there a similar standard for attorneys?
