DP here. I lived in the UK for multiple years, recently, and dh is British. I assure you that the royals do virtually nothing. Kate's entire job will be to look pretty and embody a quasi-Disney princess persona to maintain the interest of tourists and potential tourists. This is why the majority of British people are ambivalent or openly disgusted by the royals in general.

DP. Indeed, I have lots of British relatives, and they all freely share that they're disgusted with the royals. But talking to them, I don't see the monarchy being abolished; instead, the Brits might scale it way back. The late Queen used to say they had to be seen to be believed, and I think there's something to that. If the Wales continue to be this feckless and lazy, I can't see the British public agreeing to letting them continue to take tens of millions annually from the duchies. Cut back the sovereign grant, return the duchies to the people, and the royals can become a bicycle monarchy like royals everywhere else in Europe.

That’s great for Diana and those she helped. Not sure what that has to do with Kate. They are different and do things differently. And Kate seems to bring joy to people wherever she goes. It’s nice. It’s not that serious.

If Kate doesn’t want to be compared to Diana, maybe she should stop dressing up in exact replicas of Diana’s clothes?

As long as she keeps cosplaying Diana, people are going to comment on just how much she falls short of her icon.

Anytime Kate faces any criticism, she dresses up as Diana. Most recently, she did it at the rugby match after her wig malfunction.

This isn’t a secret. They put out press releases about she’s copying Diana’s style intentionally.
