Plane crash DCA?

I agree. To me the only question that remains is are we looking at malicious intent or gross incompetence. My money is on the latter.

Or something mechanical. These are really the only three viable possibilities at this time- but agree it looks like gross incompetence. Blaming Trump, Musk, some VIP, FAA is all wild and delusional

I think Musk took a helo trip to the CIA to get ready to fire them all or to ask them to resign. If there was not a VIP, then that helo would not have been out there.

They are keeping the VIP name secret? Why?

No way Musk is getting in a helicopter with a 20 something woman at the controls.

Jeff Bezos would.

Can you explain what the CIA buyout offer has you thinking it was Musk on the BH? I am not politically savvy.

Because (if it was him) he went to Langley to meet people, see for himself, etc. He’s been doing that at other agencies as well, at all hours. So why not on a Wednesday at 8:30pm? You think this guy ever takes a car/HOV hot lanes which is where more practical? No.

Also, the immediate snap reaction to 12 hours after the crash blame a DEI? Any president would have been briefed almost immediately who was on the BH, DoD knew so Trump knew at that time. It could have been a rash cover. Then the emails about the buy outs were out. Why suddenly now CIA is included? Because it’s been almost a week, maybe to hide the story. You don’t need to be political savvy to get it.

Also I suspect he’s got trolls on this thread, which Jeff has probably been deleting. All those crazy posts re “it’s a matter of national security” “it’s no one’s business” posts about who else was on the BH to me scream musk surrogates.

I hate Trump. I hate Musk. I also think it is none of YOUR business who was on the helicopter before it crashed.

This is why I won't be flying anytime soon. Yes, people will say I am insane, but--as Jeff pointed out in his summary of threads--things happening now with Shadow Prez Musk would sound like a conspiracy theory in more normal times.

There was a fire in a plane in Texas and a fourth plane issue at another airport. It's not just the ones in DC and Philly.

You can't just fire important FAA officials and expect accidents won't happen with aircraft.

DP

But it is. The CIA just sent officer names (of spies) via unsecured email to the White House to list who can be fired for being a probationary employee. Since this action demonstrates there's no need for secrecy, then the name of the VIP can be revealed.

I agree with this. Trump was positively unhinged at that press conference.

THANK YOU! I said this from the start!! Was told I was crazy.

Yes! He was beyond even his usual campaign rhetoric style of speaking. Really odd. But he's all about ratings and making the show appealing to his watchers. The crash was upstaging him and he had to get the focus back on himself.

Maybe they had explosive diarrhea. You have no idea the circumstances.

Shouldn't they have a backup?

They'd just received an email asking them to resign. They are already understaffed. But maybe you can ask the Peter Thiel boy toys helping Elon Musk break into the government computer systems.

They have access to classified info already, so maybe the 19 yo who goes by "bigballs" can help you or maybe Luke Farritor can let you know why they didn't have backup.

After all, they are in charge at OPM now!

ATC is not allowed to resign. They aren't part of that deal that's being offered.

As someone else pointed out, they received an email suggesting they resign.

This crash is Trump’s fault.

The crash was not due to an ATC staffing issue (which has been short for YEARS). We already know several of the multiple errors that have led to the crash, and none of them are a problem with ATC. But you know that..

Not the PP to whom you're responding, but: An ATC in the DCA tower was handling both plane and helicopter traffic, earlier in the evening than was standard practice, apparently because another controller left work early. The two types of aircraft were supposed to be handled by separate ATCs until 9:30 p.m. But on that night, a solo ATC was handling both about an hour earlier than normal. This is according to reporting in the Post and many other outlets.

No one is saying yet whether this change caused or even affected the crash at all; that is for the investigators to decide. But it is foolish and extremely premature of you to insist at this time that ATC staffing and/or actions had nothing to do with events that night.

It can be done by two, but combining the roles to one person is also within the current safety standards of FAA. No safety protocols were broken

NP. Yet dozens of people were broken into pieces and scattered in the Potomac. Go to hell.

I’ve been avoiding this discussion and other real news out of a sense of powerlessness. We know exactly what can happen when government is deliberately hobbled from operating correctly. This is exactly the kind of cost when Republicans get what they want. This is exactly the goal ultimately of the Reagan Revolution and shrinking the dependent baby of government until you drown it in a bathtub. People die in hideously unnecessary ways. I hate every soul who voted for this. It’s your fault along with the fascistic drug-addicted sht stains running things now.

The crash was in no way Trump or his administration’s fault. You have a lot of misplaced anger

You don't know that. The helicopter was a critical part of this accident. What were they doing? Who were they transporting? Why were they flying in that place at that time where they hit the plane? Would they have been doing that if Trump had not won the election?

This. And this is why the VIP prior flight info is not publicly known. There’s a reason for it. What I wrote was g.d.’d accurate.

There’s a bigger picture, and it’s not a conspiracy. The current government is the crudely presented logical extension of the smaller better government the architects of Reaganism have been pushing for since 1980. God I wish this site encouraged people to see the forest some times. There is a cost to “lean staffing” and “efficiency.”

Agree. When even Trump's big mouth isn't blabbing about a topic, you know there's a coverup. This is the man who revealed the names of Navy SEALS and CIA officers.

So, since he isn't talking about this, it must be bad and make him look bad.

You really think that firing the members of a safety commission (just like Biden did four years before) a week before had the effect of planes falling apart and control towers being understaffed? I pray that your critical thinking skills are no where near the government.

Do tell, which "important FAA officials" were fired? Let me answer that: none. They quit.

Or something medical with the BH pilots. Hence waiting for the reports.

I don’t think we would ever know if it was a medical event. I can’t imagine there is enough of the remains left to do an autopsy. And if it was something like a seizure that wouldn’t show on an autopsy anyway.

If they have audio from the helicopter right before the crash, it could potentially have info that help identify that as a possible explanation. Or some of the recordings of instruments.

If it was a medical event, I don't know that we'll ever know definitively, but it could wind up as a possible explanation, for whatever that might be worth to the families of survivors. I think the only people who would be comforted by that possibly are the families of the helicopter crew as it might absolve their loved ones of guilt. But for families of the victims on the plane, I am not sure there's a huge difference between the crash resulting from a pilot having a stroke and steering into the plane, versus losing sight of the plane or having identified the wrong plane and not seeing it until it was too late.

No matter what, I think ultimately the culpability is going to lie with decision makers who made it possible for something like that to result in a collision. Helicopters should never be close enough to planes landing at National that some kind of normal human error (losing a plane's lights in the traffic of cars coming up the road, or having an uncontrolled medical event) will cause them to collide. That's ultimately the lesson here and I don't know that the final NTSB report is going to change that. This was a preventable tragedy that people actually warned about because it's almost happened many times before. They should never have been so close.

In the before times, I would have expected that the report would have some impact on policies, but we are in MAGApocalypse so I doubt that anything will happen.
