Anyone go today? How was it?

My firs time on this board - sorry for the second post. Any feedback from the child?

We were there. Seemed to go well, but who knows?!?

Sounds like they listene to a story, copied some drawings, played, and moved from room to room as a class. Hard to get much more out of the child.

I have no idea what actually happened, but DC had a good time and liked the 'teachers'. No clue if it went well or not, but I consider a "good time" can't be bad.

That's pretty much what we have, too. Good time - wants to go to school there. Can't tell much else! We love the school. Did your child draw a picture while there?

The kids did several IQ-like tests from what I heard. Transition test, too. Imagine there were some struggles.

DD said they played games, did magic tricks, she wrote her name, she had to draw a picture of her family, and that they made them all run. That's about all I could get from her.

The running was a game in the (maybe) gym from what I could gather. Sounds like they also listened to a story.

I am trying to figure out what they were looking for. Actual abilities (drawing pictures?) or general listening abilities? Both? Our child was there in hopes of K. Were most there for K or JK? How many K spots are there anyway? There were a lot of kids there and I know they have at least another school visit day for this age/grade.

I think the (one) magic trick was the thing the principal gave them to do - more meant for something to take home.

Does anyone know what the WPPSI range is for K at SSSAS, to be considered? And whether the ADs take it very seriously?

I do not know the range, but it seems to matter. How much, I don't know. (This was probably totally unhelpful.)

You are obviously new at this.

At these visits (at any school, for children of this age), they are simply trying to confirm as much as possible that your child and your family will not be a nightmare. No, they don't care if your DC can or can't draw a flower or if she colors her tree orange. That can all be "fixed." What can't be fixed is obvious signs of brattiness or parents who are overbearing. They are very good at sussing out that kind of thing.

While I think these things are certainly on the radar, I completely disagree that they are not trying to see whether your child can demonstrate basic skills, separate easily, transition well, and behave herself in the classroom.
