I am trying to figure out what they were looking for. Actual abilities (drawing pictures?) or general listening abilities? Both? Our child was there in hopes of K. Were most there for K or JK? How many K spots are there anyway? There were a lot of kids there and I know they have at least another school visit day for this age/grade.
You are obviously new at this. At these visits (at any school, for children of this age), they are simply trying to confirm as much as possible that your child and your family will not be a nightmare. No, they don't care if your DC can or can't draw a flower or if she colors her tree orange. That can all be "fixed." What can't be fixed is obvious signs of brattiness or parents who are overbearing. They are very good at sussing out that kind of thing.
While I think these things are certainly on the radar, I completely disagree that they are not trying to see whether your child can demonstrate basic skills, separate easily, transition well, and behave herself in the classroom.
