Response to gift - what to do?

Anonymous
SIL perseverated on a gift to our 6 yr old for a month - sending frequent texts, emails, debating various things, not really asking for suggestions. Finally picked a magazine type gift that comes in the mail and each month links to the last month. Sent more texts saying she would get this gift. Then sent another round if emails to verify our address. Then, last week (4 weeks after the birthday), sent us the tracking number and told us to check it. It arrived Wednesday, but was so busy, we never even opened it... Today, opened or... And got two new emails asking if we got it bc she checked the tracking. I said yes, then thanked her profusely, then I got another email asking for pictures of the mailing. Weird?

Yes.

Weird, and totally annoying! As in, "thanks for giving me another job to do, SIL!"

Do nothing.

just snap a quick pic with your phone, text it and done.

I didn't look it up but haven't seen it before. Assumed it's some variation of "persevered"

It sounds like she was just really excited about this gift to me.

Likely not, but how utterly annoying to be pestered like that. Turns a gift into a burden.

OP here - it's just been so much debate and conversation about this gift AND it's late and DD doesn't care anymore about her bday and the gift is quite clearly for a much older child... Like a 12 year old girl who's into fashion. I'm just done with it. Sigh. Being ungrateful. Will stop.

my sil does this too. she gets it from her mother. i get announcements that they are thinking of buy something, then what they intend to buy, then that they are buying it now, then that they are going to ship it, then when it shipped, then when i should expect it to arrive and then constant follow up until i do in fact confirm we have it in hand.
and i always, always, always have sent gracious hand written thank you notes so its not like i don't acknowledge or appreciate it but its a billion updates for even the littlest of gifts. if they were sending a half eaten bag of m&m's i would still expect a few emails/texts and phone calls about it.
