I'm convinced that there are some dumb AF parents in Arlington who think there can't possibly be multiple people who have the same opinions.

DP. I don’t assume posts are by the same person just because they hold similar views. But when posts appear on both forums making the same arguments and using the same turns of phrase within minutes of each other, thats a pretty big coincidence.

Her post didn't use the same "turns of phrase" at all. She commented on attacking fellow parents on DCUM.

I said: "APE is no better. Doxxing and bullying teachers? Gross."

Not even a coincidence...

The post at the top of this tangent didn’t reference a specific post here or on AEM. Perhaps you are projecting.

Sorry you're having trouble keeping up. Here is one example of someone confusing me for someone else this morning.

You seem very invested in trying to derail this discussion.

I'm all-in on the discussion. I do think though it's funny that no one has ever commented on the actual screenshots - the SB recall.

What is Turner's position on the SB recall? Let me guess - you'll skip right over that one again.

Miranda Turner has never supported any kind of recall, which you know because you would have posted the screen shots if she did. This is you trying to invent rumors to smear Ms. Turner as a candidate, which tells me all I need to know about your character and integrity.

It's a question - not "a rumor".

Multiple people in the group she "leads" support the SB recall. She responded to the question about supporting the lawsuit...it's reasonable for her to respond to the question about supporting the recall.

DP here, and I think that's a fair point. You can probably just send her an email and ask her yourself (not being snarky). But being on the steering committee of APE is not MT's sole identity, and frankly, I think it's kind of silly to paint either candidate with the brush of the craziest, fringiest members of any group they're affiliated with. APE is at least transparent (meaning you can join the FB group and see that there are indeed some pretty far-out-there people posting about stuff like doing away with masks, etc). But APE is more than just a FB group and some people who are involved aren't even on FB or active in the group on there. If we're thinking along those lines, then MK should be ready to answer for some of the stuff SR and AEM are doing and saying, some of which I think is just as out there albeit in a different direction.

Agree that they shouldn't be judged by random supporters, but there is a big difference in MT's role on APE vs. MK's role on SR and AEM. Is MK even a member of SR? (I'm not so I don't know)

MK supposedly is not in social media at all. Since Smart Restart keeps information about their leadership strictly locked down other than being able to see who the admins are for the Facebook group, there is no way to know whether/how she may be involved with the group. You can see in public filings that sctive Smart Restart members make up a meaningful portion of her campaign donors.

What we do know about MK’s involvement is that she is in the leadership for CCPTA, which has been remarkably hands off with school reopening issues. They really don’t seem to have bothered.

Because, angry Dad who was never involved until now, that’s not the role of a PTA, including CCPTA.

I'm confused. Is Angry Dad the one who puts EVERYTHING in caps when he wants to make a POINT about his CANDIDATE? (Also, remember that there is a CAUCUS coming and we can VOTE for a candidate that will actually have NO EFFECT on 5 days a person in the fall.)

Anonymous wrote:Well, the pandemic has brought out the worst in people. I'm not active in either group (APE or SR) but I lurk in both just to see what they are saying. I'm pro return to school but also support things like masks and air filters and opening windows when we can, but I also think staying home forever is damaging our children ...

I don't think it will ever be safe enough for the SR people, and it's clear some of the APE people are ready to throw masks out the window and be done with it forever.

As for the school board race, Miranda has never said she wants to be rid of masks, while Mary has said she can see us doing shift schedules to be safe in the fall, so on that side of the debate, I lean more to where Miranda is. Keep the mitigations in place we can do and open vs. waiting for some mythical safety stuff to take place that will never happen and that we can't afford.

If I was either candidate, I would not want to be judged by the worst members of both groups.

Interestingly, though, all over SR right now is one of leaders actively discussing a desire to screenshot people ...

Except MK is not part of SR, while MT is on the steering committee of APE. SR is only supporting MK because she’s not MT. In fact, given where some of the SR live and the McKinley hubbub of yore, it’s a situation where the enemy of my enemy is my friend. It’s all stupid and should have no bearing on the SB race.

What I can say is that from my years of involvement in APS on various committees and as a volunteer, MK has been around doing the same, for years. MT just showed up, and I don’t feel like she’s done the work to be ready to do the job. She also hasn’t built relationships or good will with anyone outside of APE. She’s seized on a wedge issue, one that’s not even within the purview of the SB decide, in order to win an election.

I'd suggest you do your homework first and get out of your North Arlington bubble. MK has been around a while and was very active in the 2018 redistricting discussions as a Drew parent.

You assume a lot of things. Not a NA parent, and I know MK through our kids, who were together in school in SOUTH Arlington. Our kids are both still in APS, and both MK and I (separately) have spent the pandemic working to help kids in need.

Anonymous wrote:Resteering the discussion about adding days, I'm an APS teacher and my question is that there are 2 models for hybrid in APS right now. One is hybrid kids are split and each group attends 2 days with the teacher there 4 days; and the other is that the entire hybrid group attends 2 days and the entire class is virtual the other 2 days. In this model, the classroom is used by 2 different grade levels during the week.

In order to add additional days we would need to find additional rooms to be able to hold these in person classes concurrently that could have the capacity for the additional days, make sure those rooms have air cleaners (the unused rooms in my school don't have air cleaners like the used rooms do).

I would love to be in person 4 days for myself as a teacher and my own kids who are in APS at different schools. But I don't think anyone's plans for adding elementary days take the differences between these 2 elementary models happening right now into account. The 2 day model will require a lot of reshuffling in those schools of the facilities and setups that have been made for hybrid.
At some schools the classroom is sitting empty three days a week. My 2nd grader could go back all 5 days a week with no shifts in teachers or classrooms. Lunch is already outside.

APS has already said that it's been able to combine 6' distanced classrooms with the new 3' distancing. This frees up classroom space for both models.

I believe that SOME of the classrooms have been able to combine, but not all. This is the issue- APS has said it's all or nothings ofar for 4 days, not a classroom by classroom decision. Perhaps Dr. Duran will allow it on an as-available basis like Fairfax is doing. But for now it is not possible 100% across the board.

I think it'd be very reasonable to do all or nothing by grade level. So if we can get all K-2 back in 4 days - push for that.

There are several angry dads, which was kind of the point of some prior posts. There’s plenty of crazy to go around on AEM, but it seems like there are a handful of men who particularly ratchet up the drama in myriad ways and from all sides. It’s as if having to be home with their kids regularly and actually parent through out the day is sending them over the edge beyond what we’re seeing from female posters. It’s been men making FOIA requests, starting crazy Twitter accounts, filing ridiculous lawsuits, etc.

The utterly predictable part is that while these men have really driven a lot of the crazy, it’s the women, particularly Miranda and Mary, who are being taken to task for not reigning them in. Worth thinking about why so many people seem to be having that reaction.

I completely agree. I think K-2 should be the priority here for sure.

VA wanted APS to prioritize level one and priority learners this whole time - we ignored all fall. At a minimum Prek-2, ESL and SpEd should have been in person. And stories I've heard of how level one was for SpEd students make my blood boil. Kindergarteners with Down's in a room by themselves with a monitor (certified teacher at home) on an iPad. That is not open in-person school and Duran and admin should be ashamed of themselves.

Did the School Board ever even ask? I'm so disgusted with the lack of care they had even for the littlest and more needy learners. I hope we can make sure this never, ever happens again and those responsible are actually held accountable. I wish we had an ounce of passion from our current Board. All I know is I want something different than the board we have now, including our county board who just let it all happen from the sidelines.

Re: sped. One issue is that sped students who have their services in the general education setting can not then be moved to a special education setting without an IEP team meeting and an amendment made to their IEP. And if they are fully included they can’t be sitting in the room alone while the rest of the class is virtual it doesn’t work. Many level one students are in general Ed classes for part of the day and with the class fully virtual in the fall those parts of the day would be virtual via teams.

This was a concern of mine with the initial return plan of sped students before everyone else. I didn’t want my daughter stigmatized because of her IEP status and I didn’t want it visible to her peers. Her disability is minor, though.

I step away for an evening, and all hell breaks loose. Nice to see APE and RS fighting anonymously in another forum. I wish our kids could see this. Proud Arlington moment.

Besos.

I think so. His comments about the CCPTA really pissed me off! Like they could do that! It’s clear he never watched a SB meeting before or was active in the PTA or paid attention to any of it! He doesn’t know how the sausage is made, only cares that someone cooks and serves it to him on time. GMAFB! I’ve been at this sh** for a decade now, but then again, I’m a mom, so . . .

Does insulting and talking badly about people on an anon forum make you feel better? If you disagree with this dude then reply back and have a conversation. Everyone needs to grow up and stop gossiping and talking badly about your neighbors. If you have an issue with a policy or a platform or whatever it is discuss it, but just talking trash about each other on here does NO GOOD. There is a reason suicide rates have skyrocketed since social media and forums like this were created. Bullying and toxic negativity does absolutely nothing except depress people and make people feel alone. Can we all go back to the if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all mantra?
