You guys know they picked a date, right? Official announcement will be on 1/4

Where did you get that information?

I have heard the same. There was a principals meeting right before break. Although it seems like they had been trying to be careful with the numbers, they were getting all their ducks in a row. Announcement to come in early January that school will resume in January/February from what I hear.

for everyone? 4 to 5 days a week? Or are they persisting in the silly 2 days a week, where the teachers dances between 2 rooms- and they bring in Pre-K first, then a few weeks later 1-2, then maybe possibly 3-5?

Could someone in the know please answer this question, and also tell us what will happen to MS and HS students?

We already told you. It’s 2 day hybrid max. For every district in this area. They cannot maintain physical distancing with all kids in 5 days. You will not see 5 days again til august 2021, and it will be with masks.

Sorry, I am not seeing where it says what date this starts, for which grades, or whether some students will remain DL if they wish. I went through the whole thread and cannot find it.

it will be announced next week.

Are they going to tell the teachers before they tell the parents? Or do the teachers have to find out like everyone else?

We’ll probably find out 2-3 hours before the official announcement. We usually get our staff email before the parents

Yep. They have been whining about wanting “choice” for the right to give teachers none. They are something else.

For those of us who chose hybrid based on fall metrics dashboard and think it’s insane to open up now, who she we write? I have to believe that we are the actual majority.

The 6th and 9th grades will have a week to get acclimated to their new schools and the other grades will follow. I forget if it’s the second week in February or 3rd (I was in shock). Don’t blame building admin- they pretended to get our opinion but clearly had a date in mind. Claimed that it was stated all along that metrics are not driving the decision.

You probably are but they’re not going to listen. This is what teachers have been advocating for as well.

So kids at the wealthy schools tested about the same on PALs etc and their parents want them in school. Kids at finically disadvantaged schools tested lower than normal and their parents don’t want them in school. I don’t know why you think wealthy parents are crazy. They know they are supplementing to keep their kids learning. And schools all over the country are open and by any measure in person is more effective. Don’t kid yourselves. This will set financially disadvantaged kids back in a way that impacts them the rest of their lives. They will for the most part never catch up to peers who have been on the classroom learning. APS will never make up this time and get them where they should be. But please. Blame wealthy parents.

This is NOT TRUE. Please PAY ATTENTION TO THE NEWS.

Find a state or even city in this country that has zero schools open. There are none. Schools are open in our backyard.

Me too. Just for the record, I think it's a small number even at these schools. I'm in one of these neighborhoods. Some of my friends picked virtual. The ones who picked hybrid don't want to go back now. I only know one who's part of APE.

The issue is they have the ability to say “no it’s nuts to go back now” and not send their kids in when they feel it’s unsafe. THEIR pushing though is what made districts move to open in the HEIGHT of the pandemic and will force teachers in who don’t have that same ability to back out and they need to take ownership of that. They insisted schools open, schools are safe, mitigation works, it doesn’t spread in school and then when schools decided to open when it wasn’t convenient for them they quietly said “oh but my kids won’t be going.”

Actually many of them have already put their kids in private and I highly doubt they will pull them and send them to APS instead when they open. Especially when APS schools don't have the fancy HEPA filters etc that privates have. They really screwed us here.

Add in the two new school board members Cristina Diaz-Torres and David Priddy. I don't have their emails but they probably follow the same pattern.

They plan to send middle and high school back to change classes and everything in FEBRUARY?? Wow. Wow. Wow.

Yes. January in other districts. They keep telling us, teachers, it doesn’t spread in school.

for those that are livid about school finally starting to open up - keep your kids in DL. This doesn't need to be that hard.

You are telling people who want their kids in person that if they’re not willing to do that in JANUARY, their kids shouldn’t get to go in person all year. You can’t just flip flop in and out of these choices. If they pick DL they can’t pick hybrid again later. But they WOULD do hybrid if it wasn’t starting in friggin January. It makes MUCH more sense to wait til March when it will be safer so that people who chose hybrid based on school boards claiming they would use metrics get the choice they were presented with than to say “lol just kidding there’s no metrics, go in January when it’s the highest risk or you don’t go at all.” That is a ludicrous choice to force on people.

Write away if it makes you feel better but it's a complete waste of time. They do not listen or care. They'll smile and nod and do whatever they had planned to do in the first place. It's the Arlington Way. We'll give you lip service and do whatever the f$$% we want to.
