Landon vs. Georgetown Prep Upper School

The Landon - prep rivalry is still there! The schools don't really like each other. Both parties point fingers at one another. I don't think it's as heated as it used to be as many of the lacrosse players play on the same club lacrosse teams out of school.

The word "Rivalry" doesn't really capture the antipathy that exists between the two schools. And lacrosse is just a small part of it.

Landon has established GP as the school they want to or even must beat. GP is largely reacting to that obsession.

The rise of Bullis athletically may cause the focus to shift.

Prep's natural rival is Gonzaga. The school would be better off if Landon were just another IAC school to them.

No. Prep kids are playing for the Prep "club" team out of season. Landon kids are playing for VLC, Blackwolf and Madlax. Few of them, if any, are playing together on a club team.

PP here. My son plays both football and one other major sport at GP and Landon is not seen as the primary opponent-- its definitely Gonzaga. The GP kids are all aware that Gonzaga is the primary power in football and basketball, not Landon. I have to brag and say the GP JV football team beat Gonzaga this year. In baseball, St Johns is a growing power. I have attended many games and the kids cheer and some of the lyrics are a bit harsh, but it is good fun and at the end of the game they shake hands and often visit with their friends from the other school. It seems to me that all the bad examples and the GP vs. Landon mentality you describe in this thread focus on Lacrosse. I have never been to a Lacrosse game so i wouldn't know. Maybe its something about the way Lacrosse is regarded in this area. In most other geographic areas its seen as a minor sport for preppy kids. As to being a non-Catholic meaning that we don't know the school is silly. We socialize with Catholic parents and my son is happy and feels accepted. He is learning a lot. That is all the matters to me.

The poster is talking about Prep, which is only a HS, so he/she was NOT talking about youth.

But if he/she were talking about youth, most kids who are destined for Prep are playing for Club Blue, and very few Landon kids play for CB for obvious reasons.

I see the problem.

You are from somewhere else, not DC.

You stumbled into GP as a school without really understanding what it was, who went there previously, who goes there now and what any of the history is.

That's OK.

I hope your son continues to do well there and likes it.

But where you think you are, you aren't. You may catch on eventually or maybe you won't.

Anyone see a commons theme here - prep fathers or prep dads are infatuated with where they went to high school...

I was raised catholic from Ohio relocated to the DC area and my son is at an independent school (sorry not catholic) and is loving his experience thus far.

I don't understand what is the obsession in this area with high school degrees - again it's the vibe that some of these catholic schools give off.

Personally I do not care much about sports. The primary focus for my son is in academics. He looks at sport as entertainment.
As for HS bumper sticker obsession... Who cares about that?
