If your idea of a wonderful queen is someone who shows up in designer clothes once a month. Other Queens used their position to champion things they care deeply about, with the late QEII visiting endless nursing homes and even Camilla running a book club and speaking out about sexual violence. As Princess of Wales, Diana's hard work on behalf of AIDS victims and landmine survivors is well known. Kate... is supposedly interested in childhood "aaahly yaaahs," but nine months into the year she's done exactly one event with them, and through August she had done nine engagements total for the year. She spent the rest of the time skiing, on a megayacht in the Aegean, sunbathing on Mustique, and shopping in the palace storerooms for furnishings for her fifth "forever home." (Separately, lol at how it took Harry's visit to get the Waleses back into the public eye.)

But then again, if you've never left the "pretty Disney princess" stage of psychological development, I suppose she might seem wonderful to you?

I completely agree. Totally unoffensive. Will know her role. Will represent the country with dignity.

I like her because I think she’s going to bring down the monarchy. The lazier she and Will become, the closer to the end we get…

Bring on the wigs!

DP here. I lived in the UK for multiple years, recently, and dh is British. I assure you that the royals do virtually nothing. Kate's entire job will be to look pretty and embody a quasi-Disney princess persona to maintain the interest of tourists and potential tourists. This is why the majority of British people are ambivalent or openly disgusted by the royals in general.

DP. Indeed, I have lots of British relatives, and they all freely share that they're disgusted with the royals. But talking to them, I don't see the monarchy being abolished; instead, the Brits might scale it way back. The late Queen used to say they had to be seen to be believed, and I think there's something to that. If the Wales continue to be this feckless and lazy, I can't see the British public agreeing to letting them continue to take tens of millions annually from the duchies. Cut back the sovereign grant, return the duchies to the people, and the royals can become a bicycle monarchy like royals everywhere else in Europe.

The idea that she's "precious' because she's a princess with doll hair and has lost 30 pounds since college (most of that before her health scare last year) is really something. She's had an amazing platform for the past, what, 13 years of her marriage, yet she's done nothing with it. She hasn't even tried. Kate visited her "life's work," her Early Years patronage, exactly once so far this year, in June. Diana took public speaking lessons and became a wonderful advocate for some unpopular charities like AIDS.

That’s great for Diana and those she helped. Not sure what that has to do with Kate. They are different and do things differently. And Kate seems to bring joy to people wherever she goes. It’s nice. It’s not that serious.

If Kate doesn’t want to be compared to Diana, maybe she should stop dressing up in exact replicas of Diana’s clothes?

As long as she keeps cosplaying Diana, people are going to comment on just how much she falls short of her icon.

Where was Kate "cosplaying Diana"? Provide examples. Actually - nvm. Just seek some therapy for your bizarre obsession with her.

Anytime Kate faces any criticism, she dresses up as Diana. Most recently, she did it at the rugby match after her wig malfunction.

This isn’t a secret. They put out press releases about she’s copying Diana’s style intentionally.

Good for her, she looks great. And one example?

Please. That’s just this week.

If you want more, just google Kate copies Diana’s outfits and you can find an example for every occasion. I’m not going to copy and paste thousands of photos here.

You know imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right? She's honoring her MIL, not "copying her". But how funny that it annoys you!

My god, the infantilization of Kate is appalling. She's a 40-something woman who should be expected to show up for her job, make public speeches, and, yes, choose appropriate hair styles.

You're precious. Bless your heart!
