The same FCPS is suing a girl in retaliation for her claiming to have been raped at a school. They will never resign, they have no shame.

The rape did not happen at school, I think. But, I think the school did not respond to reports of problems at school. The details are on the internet somewhere.

I think school did not provide appropriate support, from what I read, but this is not a clear issue. And, I am no fan of the way FCPS handles issues.

Dp. That may be true, but there is no excuse for them to sue her for court costs for the case she lost. That’s just f’ing abusive.

The young woman brought a case that she couldn't prove. FCPS sued to recover attorney's fees and court costs.

That's common and serves the goal of discouraging frivolous litigation. If the money is recovered, it goes back into FCPS's operating budget and can be used to benefit current students and staff.

She was raped and bullied and harassed and the school didn’t do anything for her. I get that the courts determined that the school wasn’t liable, but it sends a chilling message for them to try to recover court costs from a woman who was raped in middle school.

You don’t read much do you - higher unemployment, fewer job postings (public and private), more housing inventory - all while many feds are still getting paid. The worst is yet to come and since Nova is the economic powerhouse of VA, the whole state will suffer.

This whole thread is politics.

I don't like this threat but the boy in girls bathroom thread kept being removed. As parents of girls, we should be able to want our girls to be away from boys in locker room and bathroom

I don’t think anyone disagrees with this. What I strongly object to is the idea that, just because a girl happens to have a penis, that she should be made to feel ashamed of her body or worse, be segregated from other girls. (Separate but equal anybody?) This is no longer a frontier civil rights issue, this is just settled science. Treat girls as girls, period.

And by the way, there are plenty of same sex attracted cis girls in the locker room. Maybe you want to segregate them too.

We are aware that there are same sex attracted cis girls in the women’s locker room. Biological males pretending be transgender is something different. Further, biological males are generally much stronger, bigger, and able (and statistically more likely) to sexually assault biological women than lesbian girl. I don’t want my daughter sexually assaulted at FCPS. How do you not understand or care about that? How is that less important to you than a transgender being allowed in the girls locker room?

This is accurate. Let’s also state the obvious that the world is much less safe for girls and women than boys and men. I believe there’s a saying that “men are afraid women will laugh at them. Women are afraid men will kill them.”

Lastly, it’s worth pointing out that girls should not have to feel unsafe at school or like their peace of mind is ruined. It’s hard to shake the feeling of your peace, privacy and space being violated. That lives with you for life.

This is so true. I am a woman and I have mentioned to female friends that sometimes I might feel nervous in an empty trail or parking garage. They reply they feel similar at times. My husband literally insists I am making any perceived threats up. I tell him it's because he doesnt have a vagina and so he wouldn't understand.

Remind him of the ffx county woman who got raped during the afternoon on a well trafficked running trail near Herndon a few months ago by a predator with a criminal record who was let out by the county prosecuter many times.

That intuition that women have is a critical evolutionary tool that nature gives us to keep ourselves safe

FCPS wants all of our daughters to suppress that natural protection mechanism through guilting them into being kind, inclusive and accommodating (of men's feelings)

Nothing ticks me off more than that terrible lesson.
I can get behind being kind, as in being polite. But lines need to be drawn as girls are much more vulnerable to all kinds of threats and risks that do not affect boys. Girls should not be people pleasing and blindly compliant in the name of inclusivity and accommodating others.

I understand this too. I lived in an off campus house during junior and senior year of college. One winter night (in the PNW where it gets cold, thankfully) someone managed to open my bedroom window and the cold air disrupted my sleep. I was able to slam the window shut and the individual took off running. That shook me to my core and still affects me almost 20 years later. To have your peace and safety imposed upon is life altering and it never leaves you. I still hate being in a house at night and triple check all doors and windows are locked every damn night.

THERE. IS. NO. SUCH. THING. AS. A. GIRL. WITH. A. PENIS.

We are no longer allowing you to make this argument without being called out. It is anti-science.

Here is an idea let's have gender neutral bathrooms then everyone has somewhere they feel comfortable. Why is the middle ground so hard to reach.

They’ve tried. But what I understand is that some (many?) transgender kids don’t want to be in a gender neutral or separate facility because they believe that they are the other sex and should be in the sex based bathroom/locker room. Apparently, it is offensive (outing yourself?) to be banished to a neutral facility because it doesn’t affirm the gender.

Anyways, doesn’t matter because the NYT had an article in it today that they are withholding the funds. $65M across NYC, Chicago and Fairfax. This has all just gone so utterly wrong. I agree that a middle ground would have been prudent 4 years ago. Now it’s too late. Everyone is dug in on their respective positions.

We need to make The Emperor has No Chothes required reading in middle and high schools.

We don’t know that this is exactly true. The “rape” occurred off school grounds.

This is my understanding on the issue:

Federal Law (Title IX): Title IX prohibits sex discrimination in schools that receive federal funding. Courts (including the 4th Circuit, which covers Virginia) have ruled that Title IX protections extend to gender identity. That means transgender students generally have the right to use facilities (like bathrooms and locker rooms) consistent with their gender identity.

Virginia Law: In 2020, Virginia passed legislation requiring school boards to adopt policies consistent with the Virginia Department of Education’s model policies, which affirm the rights of transgender and gender-nonconforming students (including use of names, pronouns, and facilities that match their gender identity).

FCPS Policy: Fairfax County Public Schools updated its regulations to comply with both federal guidance and Virginia law. The district allows students to access restrooms and locker rooms that align with their gender identity. FCPS also has guidelines for privacy, accommodations, and safety—such as offering alternative changing areas (like single-stall restrooms or privacy stalls) for any student who requests them, not just transgender students.

So in practice:
A transgender girl may use the girls’ locker room. A transgender boy may use the boys’ locker room. Students who are uncomfortable can request private alternatives, but they cannot force transgender students into separate facilities.

If you disagree:

Families who disagree with Fairfax County’s Title IX and gender identity policies still have ways to voice concerns, though the district must comply with federal and state law. Court rulings require FCPS to allow transgender students to use facilities consistent with their gender identity, so the School Board cannot adopt a biological-sex-only policy. However, parents can speak at board meetings, request policy reviews, and work through PTAs or advisory councils to raise issues of privacy and safety. Concerns can also be reported to the FCPS Title IX Coordinator (571-423-4074), the Office of Employee Relations, or school principals. Families may also contact elected officials and advocate for safeguards such as more privacy stalls, private changing rooms, or stronger supervision.

You completely misunderstand title 9.

Title 9 protect girls and does not give boys rights to go into girls intimate space based on som arbitrary "gender identity"

Wait I thought gender was a social construct and gender /= sex. Did that change recently?

Then why are instances like what is happening at West Springfield High School occurring? Read the complaint. A boy with facial hair, who uses the boys locker room and restroom, and staff refer to as he/him is repeatedly going into the girls locker room saying he identifies as female. It appears he is abusing the system to gawk at girls.

FCPS claims that they are following the law on the Grimm decision which supported a "trans boy" using the boys' bathroom.
The "gender identity" people say that what you say you are makes you what you are.
It will be overturned, but the base of the Fairfax Dems supports this.

And, the funniest are those who blame Asra and Minock for reporting it--like it is not true.

Sad, that, while they may have bias, they are reporting news that no one else will report. It is a fact that a complaint has been filed. Is it accurate? Time will tell, but it appears so.

It goes along with FCPS policy and their stand against the Dept of Education.

The real question is: why are other outlets not reporting it?

She should run the best campaign she can and right now that means pointing out the issue that helped defeat McAuliffe 4 years ago. Make those videos of the dad being dragged out of the school board meeting bloodied and being heckled by a woke crowd accusing him of lying about his daughter's rape. This is an issue that the Democrats should drop. They are on the wrong side of this one.

Why can’t schools simply provide some single-use restrooms and private changing areas for transgender and non-binary students? That would respect their rights to gender identity while also protecting the privacy, comfort, and safety of students who are not comfortable sharing restrooms or locker rooms with the opposite biological sex.

There are also valid concerns in athletics. Biological males do have physical advantages over biological females, and it is not fair to female athletes to have to compete under those conditions. At the same time, no one wants to see students discriminated against or treated without dignity.

I wish our country could find more moderate solutions instead of swinging between extreme positions. Respecting rights on both sides should not mean risking $167 million in funding. Many parents and community members do not agree with how FCPS and the School Board are handling these issues, and more people need to speak up and vote for leaders who will listen to all perspectives.

This was offered and rejected. Why was this girl with a penis being treated differently than other girls? You are literally denying their existence and causing great violence with your attitude. You are the reason kids kill themselves.

Separate but equal does not apply to sex. We are allowed to segregate by sex. We are allowed to have a girl's only volleyball team and a girls only locker room and a girls only bathroom.

There is no settled science in this area. It's a lot of politics and opinions.

A girl born with a penis is not actually a girl. Sure, hermaphrodites exist but they are the exception that proves the rule.

My girl loves PE. She should be able to participate without having to deal with this crap. She also needs to change into shorts and a tshirt and back into her regular clothes. She doesn't want to go wait on a line and change in a bathroom because of some boy with issues.

They're not boys. They're girls with penises. They might be boys tomorrow but for right now, they are girls.

Girls do not have penis. Just like I can't say I am black if I am obviously white. That would not be true and if you agreed and called me black (even though I am clearly white) you would be lying to me. If my kid comes home and tells me that they are the opposite gender then I am going to tell them no that is not true, otherwise I would be lying to them. It's like the emperor has no clothes.

This is child abuse and should be reported and investigated as such is it occurs. But I bet your kids are afraid of telling you anything you don’t like about their identity anyway, so it won’t happen. You are the reason why schools need to protect transgender teens from their parents.

My kid is a dog that wants to pee on your leg and take a dump on your doormat. If you tell him otherwise then that is child abuse and I will call 911.

So offensive but predictable, you and the other poster equating a person’s understanding of their core identity with these kinds of delusions. Not exactly punching up, is it?

Settled science? Hardly. But even if that were true, that does not appear to be the case here. This appears to be a guy who just wants to watch girls change and he's taking advantage of the trans policies. Wouldn't people who support trans rights be the first ones to want to exclude the posers?
