They won't move Lees Corner, 3xcept neighborhoods near 28. |
I only mentioned because in the new scenarios, THRU has about half the school going to Westfield. But I agree they won't move the whole school. |
Isn’t capacity at KAA 1200? I don’t think it can take on that many kids |
I found this website with a few more pictures of the inside. It is very modern, there will be renovations required for sure. But I assume the part operating as high school currently might need less renovations than the kindergarten area, so perhaps they could do a phase in.

You are an example of someone who has nothing of value to contribute to the conversation. Be nice or go home. |
The link PP just posted says the building is 320,000 sq ft. For comparison, Centreville HS without the modular is 325,000 sq ft, so I’m guessing this school will end up having a capacity around 2000 when they convert it from K-12 to 9-12 |
Those kindergarten spaces are huge. They can probably turn them into 3 classrooms each with very little effort. |
There are also two administrative buildings on the campus, 2950 and 2954 Education Dr, to the west of the main building. They are 15,000 sq ft each. They would make for some super fancy modulars if they needed to squeeze a few more kids in. |
I would imagine they move Lees Corner and Oak Hill to the new school to relieve overcrowding at Chantilly. |
I still think this should just be turned into the Rachel Carson Secondary School campus. |
The FCPS maps are misleading. The proposed rezone expanding the boundary of Lees Corner across route 50 is mostly commercial area. He will only be adding a small cluster of residents near the Wegmans to Lees corner (which totally does NOT make any sense. Thru is NOT sending half of Lees corner to Westfield. He is sending only a very small tiny fraction to Westfield and in doing so, he is creating a NEW split feeder. |
I'm sorry, but as a parent, you are all losing sight of one thing. That school closing has uprooted 1200 families. Do you know how many kids are entirely devastated by the loss of this building that they called their own home? The sale was devastating for many families and children. While you all marvel at the architecture, you're forgetting that it was made for a particular type of community, and a beautiful one at that who don't have any other place like this in the area. These messages are so cold and distant from the reality that all these families and kids are now displaced and don't know where to go. The school actually brought a lot of good to the county with the diverse and international population. Many families with accomplished backgrounds even moved families to the county and brought their businesses to this area because of the school. Keeping the school as KAA actually better served the overall county. This sale has hurt too many people, and not a single post here has shown any empathy for the kids who have been crying about it. you are all parents. I would think you would know this yourselves. |
FCPS has the money. Sure they got a bargain deal but they have the money and they could custom build a school. That bargain deal btw came at the cost of breaking apart a vibrant school and community that are extremely sad at this loss. |
FCPS had nothing to do with the closing of the school. Talk to the Saudi Government who made that choice. |
Good point. Also where are those 1200 kids going? People are planning moves without considering those kids needing a place to go. |
