Climate change is driving this. We need to get to the root cause.

Can't.tell.if.sarcasm.

I thought that Harris was supposed to figure out the “root causes” of the illegal immigration crisis? Has she gotten any answers yet? Oh wait, maybe if she was competent, there would some progress here.

What a waste of space she is.

The NYC mayor seems like a sensible person. However, it's a bit difficult to take this change of heart when conservatives have spent the past 5 years being accused of racism for having concerns about border security, policing, and the general limits of our society's ability to care for an endless stream of needy people. At some point, it would be nice if liberals admit that people can have concerns about these things because they are, in fact, valid concerns for any society. We just don't have an infinite ability to absorb all the undocumented people in a humane way.

Exactly. And now the US will be excoriated for not taking care of all these people. If there were some semblance of a plan maaayyyybbbee, but not so many all at once. What is more mind-blowing is that we seem to be bending over backwards more to provide for these new arrivals than people who were already here and struggling.

Just watched the video. Mayor Adams is a truth teller in a time where it's dangerous to tell the truth. Why isn't he running for president?

Where were the Billions of dollars being spent now on migrants??! If we are spending billions now, why were we not helping citizens such as homeless, vets, poor people get housing/food/eduction??

Why do migrants get better treatment than inner city youth and families??????!

Remember this next election that Biden cares more about migrants than struggling citizens

Don't feel too bad for him. He was all aboard the "sanctuary city, we must protect our immigrants, all are welcome" train until it stopped at his front door.

Many Democrat elites hold these people in contempt and expect their vote and obeisance for whatever crumbs have been thrown their way.

When is the next mayoral election in NYC?

This is bigger than NYC. People should be looking at 2024, or we are just passing around a hot potato between states.

The presidential election is not the only election that matters. Local politics are just as important. Also, in the case of NYC, who it votes for in its next mayoral election may give us an indication of where other big cities overwhelmed by migrants are headed. The solution may not be to elect a GOP candidate (it could be not not necessarily). It could be a Democrat willing to hold out both a carrot and a stick. Deals with ICE to handle people who are here illegally and with other feds to deal with employers who hire and exploit children and undocumented workers; and Metes out appropriate punishment for other crimes committed by citizens and non-citizens. There are humane ways of doing these things as opposed to doing nothing.

The illegal migrants seen assaulting officers in this video have been released without bail. It’s more than likely all charges will be dismissed.

In a sane world if an illegal migrant committed assault on a police officer their deportation would be immediate.

Particularly ones who are living entirely at the expense of taxpayers.

But it’s clear we no longer function as a civilized city. There are essentially zero consequences for all manner of crime, and the criminals know it — even the ones who just got here.

This is what Democrat governance gives you. Had enough yet?

Hate to break it to you, sunshine, but this is happening in Republican-run parts of the country too. We need comprehensive reforms.

Yes, Democrats are being stupid but Republicans have been equally stupid, for obstructing any attempt to solve it, like adding judges to speed up deportations, like funding facilities to put them rather than being forced to release them and so on. All Republicans want to do is point fingers, they have zero genuine interest in solving the problem. Their entire strategy is to allow the problems to persist and worsen, and then try and use it as ammunition against the left. It's the absolute worst kind of cynical bullshit.

Trump tried the wall and that resulted in hysterical wailing and crying of the dems after he was elected. GOP can't do nothing without libs intervening.

Trump's wall was a complete failure even without the Dems doing a single thing. It was naive. It was overpriced and a logistical nightmare, which is why he only managed to get a tiny portion built. And of that portion built, they easily cut through it with cheap battery powered angle grinders. They lobbed drugs over top of it. Parts of the wall fell down on its own. They circumnavigated it with no problem.

Again, the issues are around a.) slowing the flow of migrants in the first place, by giving them more reason to stay home - but NOOOO we can't do that because we can't spend a penny of aid on "shithole" countries, with FAKE MADE-UP excuses why not "because we have homeless vets" (which you also don't care about). b.) improving detection at the border with technology (which is what Israel and other counties do) but NOOO we just need a big expensive but weak wall c.) using diplomacy and international communications campaigns to pierce the cartels lies about "we will get you into America and they will take you and give you free shit" d.) hiring judges and clerks and bolstering the capacity to hear refugee cases so that they can be dealt with ON THE SPOT, no "come back in 2 years for a hearing" and e.) having a place to put them when there is a backlog and f.) fixing our visa program so that businesses who want them can actually hire them but then have to actually comply with all laws with criminal penalties for employers who don't and g.) back to c, making it clear to every country that there is a process and that they can't come here without folllowing the process.

Please review Trump's "Remain in Mexico" policy, which was enforced.

Then Biden entered and withdrew that policy, accused CBP of "whipping migrants", started deconstructing the wall and letting parts of it rust in the desert, and let immigrants flood in even though they weren't tested, vaccinated and quarantined while threatening U.S. citizens of losing their jobs if they didn't get vaccinated, etc., etc.

Dems have been the destruction of this country. MEN HAVE BEEN FREELY USING WOMENS PUBLIC RESTROOMS AND TEARING THEM UP. One time a security guard was screaming af the top of his lungs for a man who went into the ladies bathroom at the movies to come the f out. Then this month a man came out of the women's bathroom I was waiting on. Toilet seat up and piss on the floor.

Sounds more like a cleanliness issue.

How many times have women gone to the men’s room at an outdoor concert/fair/sporting event when the women’s room line was obnoxiously long? Plenty. The bathroom “issue” should be a non issue — make them all unisex.

No one said the presidential election was all that matters. But do you see all of these "local" politicians with their hands out asking for financial assistance from the feds right now? Saying that this is bigger than local is not the same as saying that local does not matter. We aren't going to "local" our way out of this.
