The PG Pool is racist [MD]

Anonymous
Is it worse than the very blond Daleview pool? Waitlist position never disclosed, they take members off-list, etc. Wish MoCo would investigate.

A lot of PG families lie about residency to get their kids into DC schools. There have been news reports and articles on this for years. Maybe DC is getting their revenge at your pool! DC should just rejoin MD again and put all this squabbling to rest.

Oh my god. PG pool is NOT A COUNTY FACILITY. it is not a Maryland taxpayer funded resource in any way.

They should rename it.

No one has said the pool is a county facility. That doesn't seem to stop people from arguing about it. Why would a private club be compelled to weigh zip codes or change their process? No one has proven it's members exclude black and brown people. This post is based on the anecdotal evidence of one person/few people.

So, is your position that the segregation academies and private “community “ pools were and are fine because they’re private? I’m wondering where —or if —you would draw a line somewhere. I’m also wondering when “anecdotal “ evidence would become meaningful by your standards.

Well let's first establish that they're racist. Where is your dataset proving that they are even majority white or otherwise have biased application practices?

I haven’t even seen any anecdotal evidence! OP claims that the fact the pool isn’t open to everyone is racist.

The pool is open to everyone. Anyone can join.

Honestly, I agree the name is any issue:

PG Pool
vs.
Thaddeus McMuffins Aquatic Club (sounds more private, no?)

OP and PPs know this isn't a county run pool. In fact several have turned their nose up at county run pools in the area as well as the apartment pool across the street. Something isn't adding up.

I’m a different person asking questions in an attempt to better understand the post. I don’t have a data set.

What is your question? Do you think it’s racist to run a waiting list based on the order people signed up?

My questions are at 22:48.
As to your question, I would need additional information. While on the surface, that seems fair, the history of segregated pools, and the reality of gentrification would have a possibly biased impact on the order in which people signed up, and whether some people felt welcomed to sign up in the first place .

The situation is analogous to racial segregation in our communities. The current members say “anyone can join”, just as the current people that live in Chevy Chase say that anyone can buy a house there today. But what is neglected to mention is that the current situation was created by systemic de jure (racial covenants, red lining) and de facto (zoning) segregationist policies.

The people on here arguing otherwise for the sake of defending the administration of this pool sound like the residents of Chevy Chase defending their enclave.

Only difference is that the folks in Chevy Chase don’t claim any social standing for anti-racism or whatever.

Just own your racism. I don’t think that’s too much to ask.

True.

But they won't in this whiny whiny culture of ours.
