William is the heir whether he does his “job” or not. He inherits the income from the Duchy of Cornwall (and later the Duchy of Lancaster) whether he gets out of bed in the morning or not.

Whether or not Joe Q Public decides his level of engagement is “enough” or not doesn’t change that. And it certainly isn’t affected by whether or not some American thinks he’s lazy. Plus we all know there is no amount of work he could do that would make you like him. So your comments are meaningless.

He's the heir to 15 thrones. 3 are out the door immediately in 2022 because he came to their islands after 40 years of absence.
I expect another 5 or so to follow. Williams problems occur when the remaining thrones realize he's lazy as f and Charles/Queen are dead or housebound and can't keep up public appearances and engagement levels to shelter him.

The UK spends 110+ million a year on the royal family. How long is that going to fly with an absent ruler, a new $240 million royal yacht, a $600 million renovation of a palace no one lives in, and the UK government squeezing every penny out of the taxpayer while standard of living and NHS benefits are declining?

He is threading a very fine needle and making a poor show of it when at 40 - he should be the most active he's ever been in his life. Just some thoughts.

Every time you write "lazy as AF" just reflects on you. If you aren't British why are you getting so worked up? What do you want him to do? Not see hos children or wife? What would satisfu you? I suspect nothing.

Not see his wife and children?? What world do you live in? Neither of them have jobs and all three kids are in private school full-time. George is leaving for boarding academy in the fall to top it off (it’s good for a future king to develop self-reliance and leadership skills).

They’re going to send a ten year old to boarding school? Is that just speculation? Did William and Harry even go that young? William and Kate also seem like a more modern and tight knit family- it wouldn’t be surprising if they opted out of boarding school.

Actually, he’ll only be nine. That shouldn’t even be legal.

Wealthy parents do it all the time. And yes William and Harry both went away to boarding schools at 8.

I think it's fairly traditional from age 8 in aristocratic British circles.

They’re not opting out of boarding school for the heir. They haven’t really done anything significant with their kids that is that different from tradition. And they wouldn’t start with something as huge as boarding school when all the royals and their social set do that.

As a mom of twin 8 year olds that’s heartbreakingly young to be away from your parents. How horrific. I say that as a person who’s family members typically go to boarding school for high school.

It’s different in the UK - schools are within an hour or two max of home and kids that young go home every weekend. It’s also the tradition in British upper class/landed gentry/royals. That being said, still a lot at the elementary level!

I feel like a lot of British colonialism and violence can be explained by this. What a horrific practice.

I do think Wills and Kate are quite lazy, but I don’t understand why people are blaming them for those countries leaving the Realm. Their visits were fairly innocuous. Maybe the politicians used the event of a royal (any royal) visit as impetus to make the announcement and blindsided them, but more likely Wills and Kate went in already knowing what was coming and intending to give a polite farewell. Either way, I doubt they went in and offended the PMs who made a spur-of-the-moment decision to flounce off. That’s just not how these things work.

Their laziness has been documented for years. They don't prepare for the visits, learn the culture (Wills said he'd never watched a Bollywood film when asked at the Indian capitol!), and they certainly don't seem to go in with an eye to increase on-the-ground assistance. Their visit didn't go well because everyone and their mother knows the Caribbean has been requesting assistance with the Windrush generation reception in the UK. These are Caribbeans who left for the UK post-WWII to aid in rebuilding the UK. They were on valid visas. They worked for decades to repair the UK. Now they're being treated like trash and run out of the country just as their pensions come in.

William is (or was) the future King of realms in both respects. It is literally his job to represent his peoples and he had a unique position of being the one who could both facilitate talks and get justice. He chose to do nothing and then arrived in the Caribbean for what is essentially a 3-day drive-by where he went on private snorkeling and scuba diving trips while occasionally offending locals with colonial cosplay.

He's worse than useless. He's offensive.

Their visits were not “fairly innocuous.” There’s no way William and Kate already knew anything because as the other PP said, they very famously don’t prepare. They came in doing gross colonialism cosplay (and then blamed the Jamaicans for it!!). It was gross but socially acceptable when Elizabeth did it in the fifties, it is gross and completely tone deaf.

The trip was a disaster because these two have lazy for over a decade. They have absolutely nothing to show for the last ten years. They shall remain nameless, but the other two that William and Kate ran out of the country did and do a ton more, both as royals and now as not royals.

+1. These two are white mediocrity personified.

Not the rota admitting Mr. Incandescent with Rage is one screw loose of a bolt?

Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, is destined one day to be king. Determined to serve his country as his grandmother, the Queen has so selflessly done for seven decades, William is the epitome of a loving husband to Catherine, and a devoted father to their three children: George, Charlotte and Louis.

In public, William appears calm, balanced and determined. He is passionate about safeguarding the environment and helping to protect species under threat of extinction. The Duke and his wife have also worked tirelessly to remove the stigma that continues to mark mental health problems.

In private, however, those close to him say that William, while being a dedicated servant of the Crown can be volatile, defying his calm, family-guy public demeanour. It is also said that while William demands deference from royals of lower rank, he rarely shows it to those above him.

This is the definitive account – insightful and nuanced – of the life of the Duke of Cambridge as he approaches his milestone birthday. Jobson explores the complex character of the man who will one day reign as King William V. It is the story of the making of a king for our times.

I can believe this…and I really love the Cambridges. Will seems spoiled, and indulged. I bet kate puts up with a lot behind closed doors.

This. Children are still forming social and emotional attachments 8 years old. They’re babies! Why even have children if you send them off so young to only see them on the weekend, assuming that’s the practice. Talk about dehumanizing people from an early age ….

I think it's fairly traditional from age 8 in aristocratic British circles.

[b]. What a horrific practice.

This. Children are still forming social and emotional attachments 8 years old. They’re babies! Why even have children if you send them off so young to only see them on the weekend, assuming that’s the practice. Talk about dehumanizing people from an early age ….

Meh. Let's see what happends. I slightly remember reading a past article that they weren't going to send their kids to boarding schools at such a young age. They do seem tight-knit and I can see Kate especially wanting to wait until the kids are older before they are sent to boarding school.
