Good luck to them.

Jamaica can do whatever they want.

If I were leading Jamaica, I’d remind the people that China is rapidly buying up real estate and primary interest in companies (including grocery stores and resorts) in the southern Caribbean, and I’d want a western world power like the UK in my corner if/when things get weird in the Caribbean.

Yes well Jamaica is two steps ahead of you with a far more advanced and equitable western power than Brexit BRF in their corner.

Side note - I’d wondered why the Cambridge whining had mysteriously dropped off Saturday, hard to brief against a country with a superpower at their back.

I think Charles and co probably told him to shut his yap. And both William and Kate were having their sides leaking as of yesterday I think (Kate’s finally going to do more solo work! And it only took her 11 years in the royal family to be able to do it.), so they mostly just stopped leaking about the horrible flop tour.

The idea of sending her on more solo tours gives me side eye. What exactly is she going to do? She went to Denmark by herself last month and didn't say a single word - no remarks, no speeches, not even a presser thanking her European hosts for the accommodations.

And notice that they didn't say William would be doing more tours himself? Out of the two he can actually put an intelligible sentence together. Does he not want to work or do they not trust him out there?

So weird.

kate spoke plenty at the young kids roundtables she was on when she went to visit Denmarks early childhood development center. Shes shy but passionate about kids - shes never liked the spotlight and is doing a really lovely job. Nothing she does screams look at me!!!! maybe you like that, maybe you dont but shes certainly intelligent and certainly articulate.

Absolutely not. She is very pretty, but she is doing an absolutely terrible job and comes off as a lobotomized moron in almost every situation, It doesn't come off as "lovely" it comes off as super lazy and unprofessional. Articulate? Are you kidding me? She stumbles around and sounds like she has a 4th grade education half the time, forget about when she is in the presence of an actually intelligent and articulate person, she cowers and demures.

well we disagree then. i loved her podcast appearance when she talked about being a mother.

She stays under the radar, looks pretty, and tries not to outshine William. Who knows if she’s smart or not? My guess is average, like him.

They're both extremely average in both intelligence and demeanor, but I suppose that's where a lot of their appeal comes from. Harry comes off as significantly more well-spoken and intelligent, which is interesting because he's not known to be book smart, per se.

They aren't running for Office for chrissakes.

Being born into it, was Wills 'election' and Charles', etc.

The King and Queen aren't Prime Minister. They head charities and social events. The King/Queen of England are CEREMONIAL. They hold ZERO real power.

They kind of are. Public sentiment matters. Which is why they got dumped live on television from one republic. And a 4th + 5th announced they are leaving today. The public doesn't care for them. They're out.

And so what if the monarchy were to end? William will still be a very rich man and he absolutely won’t have to lift another finger for the rest of his life if he so chooses.

Do you know how much?

It’s hard to say precisely but probably somewhere between $10-20 million is sent annually, with estimated costs of up to $50 million annually. Not all of that is sent to them, though. It is beyond ridiculous IMO, offensively so.

Here is an older article about it:

Agree.

Brexit might end up dooming the monarchy, what with the economic fallout in the UK and the message of xenophobia in sent.

Wow - thank you.

Canada
The grand total that we estimate (excluding the cost of hosting), is $50.5 million per year.

New Zealand
In New Zealand, the monarchy estimates it costs NZ$4.3 million-NZ$18.6 million

Australia
The Governor General’s office ran up a tab of $17,669,000.

That's $65 million in annual taxes going to support the UK royals who haven't been to any of these countries in over three years.

Let’s just ignore the fact we have been in a pandemic for two of those years.

Yep. And what’s William’s excuse for never having toured or visited any of the Caribbean Commonwealth realms or African Commonwealth republics in 10 years of marriage?

Ouch, the embarrassing couple in the family really mucked a whole host of Jubilee events. I even saw Trinidad ditching the UK justice courts today.

Royals urged to ‘rethink’ tours after Caribbean ‘PR fiasco’ before Sophie and Edward trip next month

March 29, 2022

Buckingham Palace must “rethink” the future of royal tours after Prince William and Kate’s visit to the Caribbean stirred up a “PR fiasco”, royal experts have said.

Royal biographer Nigel Cawthorne said the Palace would have to ask difficult questions about whether to proceed with planned tours of the Commonwealth next month and risk causing the Queen further embarrassment in her Platinum Jubilee year.

William is the heir whether he does his “job” or not. He inherits the income from the Duchy of Cornwall (and later the Duchy of Lancaster) whether he gets out of bed in the morning or not.

Whether or not Joe Q Public decides his level of engagement is “enough” or not doesn’t change that. And it certainly isn’t affected by whether or not some American thinks he’s lazy. He's the heir to 15 thrones. 3 are out the door immediately in 2022 because he came to their islands after 40 years of absence.

I expect another 5 or so to follow. Williams problems occur when the remaining thrones realize he's lazy as f and Charles/Queen are dead or housebound and can't keep up public appearances and engagement levels to shelter him.

The UK spends 110+ million a year on the royal family. How long is that going to fly with an absent ruler, a new $240 million royal yacht, a $600 million renovation of a palace no one lives in, and the UK government squeezing every penny out of the taxpayer while standard of living and NHS benefits are declining?

He is threading a very fine needle and making a poor show of it when at 40 - he should be the most active he's ever been in his life. Just some thoughts.

Every time you write "lazy as AF" just reflects on you. If you aren't British why are you getting so worked up? What do you want him to do? Not see hos children or wife? What would satisfu you? I suspect nothing.

Not see his wife and children?? What world do you live in? Neither of them have jobs and all three kids are in private school full-time. George is leaving for boarding academy in the fall to top it off (it’s good for a future king to develop self-reliance and leadership skills).

They’re going to send a ten year old to boarding school? Is that just speculation? Did William and Harry even go that young? William and Kate also seem like a more modern and tight knit family- it wouldn’t be surprising if they opted out of boarding school.

Actually, he’ll only be nine. That shouldn’t even be legal.
