Only Blair and Wheaton have advanced classes so many kids choose those vs. their home school because of it. If they want to fix it they need to have more advanced classes at every school.

False.

Its not false, we are in the DCC. Our school has NO science AP's and math ends with Calc BC. They don't have music AP and other things either. So, you compare what Blair and Wheaton and other schools like WJ the schools aren't close to equal.

Maybe your kid stoped at Calc but for those of our kids who want more advanced math, science, engineering, computer science, etc. it sucks.

I'm an Einstein parent too. But you said: "Only Blair and Wheaton have advanced classes." That is misinformation. All the schools have a selection of advanced classes, including AP and/or IB. Blair and Wheaton have STEM academies and magnets, so obviously they will have classes other schools do not. This may all be moot after the program analysis and boundary study anyway.

Ib is not equal to ap. There are no ap sciences classes. There is no math after calc bc. They have some, but not if your kid is on a faster track. At Einstein the VP and guidance counselor discouraged ours from taking ap classes at all.

If you're looking for math beyond 3D calculus you prob should just dual enroll. You think a high school teacher can effectively teach Differential Equations? If your school offers AP Calc BC that's plenty.

There are at least two teachers that can teach beyond BC. So, yes, I do. its not plenty when some MS start kids in Algebra in 6th.

IB is generally considered stronger than AP, around the world. At IB schools, kids are encouraged to take IB classes. If you're in the DCC and don't want an IB school, there are three non-IB schools available.

I have an IB diploma. I did well in the classes. It was harder than college. That being said, I also took many AP classes. They were more difficult. And US colleges respect AP more for credit and otherwise. I would encourage my kid towards AP. IB focuses too much on fluff like Theory of Knowledge, and extended essay and the excessive emphasis on foreign language skills which I've since forgotten and was useless in retrospect

The math track isn't the same. Science might be ok, but it doesn't start till junior year.

+1. This is public school and courses are only offered when there is sufficient interest.

Its not stronger at all and many colleges don't give credit for IB exams. You cannot easily cosa to a overcrowded school. We were denied a cosa. So, ok, they are available but if you cannot get in its not an option. IB is not stronger in math.

Um.. hello it is all the same county. Same curriculum same teacher qualifications and you actually need to be a pretty effective teacher to teach struggling students don’t have to be so much so if parents are helping and offering tutors. The only difference is type of student. The education and standards are the same. Trust me I know.

What middle school does that? Go to Russian school of math for enrichment after school. This is public school. We do eureka

Just consider the consortiums as equally bad regardless if they actually use the term. Nobody really wants to go to those schools if they can avoid it. All options make Woodward a DCC and WJ wins out

+1 nobody wants DCC for their kids if they can avoid it. Any WJ parent pretending otherwise is just too progressive to admit it to themselves. If your are getting zoned to Woodward you lost big time

You seriously think none of us in the DCC could afford to live elsewhere? No, we just have other priorities and values, and aren't obsessed with keeping our kids away from poor kids or bothered by schools that are majority kids of color.

That person is a troll. Just ignore them. Most real people don’t think that way.

Multiple schools. Hs kids don’t do Russian math or Eureka.

This is very true.

What I can now see is that “W” stands for white..with Asians thrown in. That is why so many people here are bent out of shape. That is all going to shift now so if you are even a bit uncomfy send your kids to private or move to Utah or Vermont. Plenty of white kids there. Moco is more diverse now. You can ot hide in your little pocket of the county. Please move and do us all a favor and no nothing bad will happen if you move..

Here is one SJW spouting non-sense. Issues is not white, black yellow or brown color. Issue is importing poverty in county year after year and having an impact.

Why Asian thrown in does not bother this so called W/White? Think about it. It's not about skin color or race.

Ffs look at the enrollment data. Do the black and brown kids at WJ not exist in your mind?

Also there are a few trolls on this site who endlessly throw these disgusting bombs claiming to speak for WJ but they don’t. It is time to start ignoring them and focus on the substantive issues.
