Nutrisystem

Ok someone enlighten me here. My dad just started the nurtisystem program and just received all of his meals the other day. I'm completely freaked out by the fact that the meals (chicken and dumplings, pizzas, stir fry, sausage and rice, etc) come in boxes that don't need to be frozen or refrigerated. How exactly is this HEALTHY???!!!

I know, it's gross. I tried it once and gave up because the food was so nasty. It works, though. My roommate at the time lost 25 lbs.

Does your dad live alone? Does he know how to cook? Does he have an issue (like impaired vision) which would make cooking difficult?

My SIL went on Nutrisystem and it gets very expensive. When she went off she gained her weight back, but also doesn't know how (or is too lazy) to cook.

They have preservatives.
Food isn't tasty but program works.
I was gassy on it.

My DH tried it a few years ago and when the box arrived we had the exact same reaction as you. He lasted a week. MREs are tastier

The food tastes bad and the portions are tiny. I lasted a few weeks before I gave up. I started mostly clean eating and have lost 25 pounds and have kept it off for three years.

A good friends of mine went on it years ago and lost about 40 lbs. she has kept the weight off after 2 kids.
The food seemed gross to me but she didnt mind it. The food expands when you add water and heat it.

But MRE's aren't on a weight loss program

What are MRE's?

I thought it was army food or food you take camping that doesn't require refrigeration

MRE = Meals Ready to Eat

I did it a while back and the food was SO GROSS. I ended up throwing a bunch of it away.

My point is that MREs are pretty commonly understood to be unappetizing...and nutri system food is even less tasty. MREs are actually designed to be calorie-dense and feeling to provide sustenance to soldiers in the fild, so yeah...not a diet food.

Agree with PP who recommended mostly clean food. After DH gave up on Nutrisystem he continued to struggle with fad diets, etc. Two months ago he started eating as clean as possible without going to extremes (so some packaged food) and has lost about fifteen lbs without even exercising. Even if the dieter in the original post (I think it was OPs dad) eats grilled chicken and microwaved frozen vegetables every night they'll prob still see good results without the nasty Nutrisystem "food."

I did both Nutrisystem and medifast to get rid of 25 lbs of preggo weight (and I have kept it off for 4 years now- I held on to preggo weight for like 4 years after giving birth to two kids so this wasn't a fast track after pregnancy). Nutrisystem was my first- I did this for 4 weeks- completely determined and lost like 10 lbs.. I did learn what my favorite foods were etc. but overall this was just a little more complicated since I had t supplement with fresh veggies (which is good- but adds to the thinking/planning component). Medifast was super easy- but the aspertaine and/or soy based stuff did bother my stomach (as did nutrisystem) so I switched to whey and that was better. Lost close to 10 there- worked on the rest on my own and no I wish I could say I work out tons (I have slacked off the last two years) but I don't but try to be active.
