Yes some people abuse the system and hold kids back but idk if it will be enough kids or care from ECNL when it aligns so perfectly with college recruiting.

Won't give up will you?

Your stupid held back player can play with kids their own age. You're not going to cheat your way into playing down for wins.

This was my first post? Which I guess we don’t know who says what. Just makes sense to go with grad year for ECNL. Also my kid will play up still next year because she can. You don’t know what you’re taking about. So stop projecting on people.

As long as we agree that held back kids are stupid and playing down for wins is cheating.

Held back or not, the new system won’t allow kids to play outside of their age group. You’re caught up on this graduation year stuff, which isn’t happening anyway. So relax.

I'm saying this so the private school parents hear it. They think nobody notices their 16 year old high school freshman.

We do and we think it's pathetic.

If they are autistic or have learning difficulties and were held back do you still think it’s pathetic? For you to judge people is really gross. You don’t know why a kid was held back. Most elite players actually leave school early. Anyone who hold a kid back because of sports is silly but to say no kid should be able to play their senior year is silly.
Should at least have it for U18-19.

You're completely welcome to play with players your own age.

This will never happen the parents that want their kid to play down for wins also know that their kid isn't any good. This is why they want to find a way to play down.

Definitely. My point is what about when they are seniors and you assuming everyone holds back kids for sports when 99% of sports parents would not do that.

When they're a senior they play in a combined age group team that allows playing down.

This is how it's always been. It's how SY worked back in 2018.

Also in these type of situations if a college really wants a player the player will get a GED and graduate early.

Cheating is not following the rules. Not meeting some strangers definition of fairness is not cheating.

Nope cheating is cheating. I'm sorry you've never taken an ethics course.

In the rec soccer league my kid plays in the contract that parents sign doesn't mention anything about PEDs.

If PEDs aren't specifically called out as against the rules does this mean they're legal and allowed? (The answer is that PEDs are illegal and not allowed)

Playing down for wins is the same thing. Parents are trying to cheat by being bigger and faster than all the opponents.

Not the original poster of cheating or not. But unless it’s against the rules it’s not cheating. Something can be unethical but that’s a totally different argument than if something is cheating.

A parent changing a birth certificate so a kid can play down is cheating. Because we have age limits in place. If it’s grad year and a kid is part of that grade it’s not cheating.

I’m not for grad year either but it’s not cheating to hold your kids back. Just really really dumb.

Kids get prescribed growth hormones, this is not cheating. Some random parent is not the cheating police with mean glances and rumors, they are just garden variety judgemental.

Not sure where you got jealousy. Cheating is cheating. Public school parents can hold their kids back as well.

Wow, this thread is still going, let me boil it down.

bottomline, for those born after 8/1 or 9/1 or whatever the school year date is, those girls/boys who were previously some of the youngest (where kids and parents just dealt with it) now will be the oldest potentially.

now lets assume we are talking about top teams, b/c thats really all that matters, otherwise we are talking about movement within mid tier which could have always happened, up or down C team to b team or B to A team. so if that dc wants to drop an age group to play at school year, more than likely will still not wind up on the A team, possible but unlikely and if so, still would not be an impact player. Its just a shifting of teams, but again, no "real" impact that would effect team, club, nor college prospects. maybe end up in a better situation but again no real impact.

Now for those that are late birth year players that are impact players on top team, same goes for those impact players who happen to be playing up a birth year. For those impact players, they now would have more options, meaning could still continue playing birth year OR they would have the option to play school year, where more than likely they would "dominate" to a degree and this would have a domino effect on those fringe players on the school year team. It will be club dependent and team dependent. how good is the school year team, how good is the birth year team. Which team is going to nationals, etc....it also could be very fluid, and they could pick and choose play depending on what showcase, etc....and of course as long as the club/coach is on board.

Everyone needs to relax, but the domino effect will effect fringe players, but fringe players are always at risk each and every year, where clud would be quick to replace if better options.

There is no correct way to be pro or con on the change; as it will 100% be based on your own dc's situation; it will benefit some and it will hurt others.... more options for those impact late year players and potential loss of spots or loss of playing time for fringe players.

Again 100% club and team dependent.

If I am off on the above, would like to hear the comments, but this is my take.

If you’re not cheating you’re not trying.

Go cheat somewhere else. GY will never happen in club soccer. Not matter how much you might want it to.
