Everyone else will either join them in fall or they will implement with phases so each team can add a certain number of Q3/4 players for 25/26 with full implementation for 26/27.

People need to understand that you're reaching into your ass and making a statement with a 50/50 chance of being right.

Your guesses are no better than anyone else's.

I saw the surveys my friend and even got to give my opinion on some things. I chose school year because it’s what is best for the majority of kids. That’s right people who have a say read your message boards.

Not my message board personally.

Which group do you represent?

This isn’t the CIA. Also my say is very little in only got to fill out a USYS survey which was sent out earlier in the summer. Even we do not know all. But we do get some bread crumbs from the overlords from time to time.

Nothing has been decided by US Soccer
But US Club, AYSO, USYS have already had their meetings and decided to go through with it. Maybe US Soccer will say no however that will not stop the majority from making their change. Which the ECNL president has already said openly.

It is so obvious that US Soccer, USYS, and AYSO will do SY. US Soccer will not stop them. The decision will be "soft," with a tone that allows each sanctioning body to do what is in the best interest of its members.

Yes that’s already been hinted at. Will be interesting to see who goes with what and when.

ECNL going to SY is a done deal.

Let's see how GA/DPL, MLSN/EA react.

ECNL has wanted to go/stay SY since 2018. It's no secret what they prefer when it comes to BY vs. SY.

GA/DPL, MLSN/EA are the wildcards.

I have heard of one GA club told parents to expect it (NE) and another that said it wasn't' happening (Midwest). Who knows.

If the change is approved it should be an extra year to get thing settled for the majority of youth leagues but if leagues want to jump in they should be able to as well.

Why are they doing this 2 weeks before a meeting?
For cover on the position that they have already taken.

When you want real input, you get in months in advance, when you want to put on a show that you care about the stance of others, you do it 2 weeks out on your announcement of the change you decided months ago.

US Soccer received flack for unilaterally switching from SY to CY so they want cover for their decision this time.

Expect a couple of hand picked examples about how my little Timmy is now jobless and homeless because of the prior move from SY to CY to create a narrative for acceptance with the change back.

Agree -- that is why decision is spring at best.

It’s SY, everyone. Just accept it and get ready for the change.

The surveys went out to the clubs like two months ago, this whole plan was cooked once before that by handful of EL executives. Clubs were surprised, even those that support the change.

This is exactly how DA failed. ECNL folks were behind that too. There will be fallout, regardless of position on age cut offs. People are not gonna be happy about the conspiracy. (See SoCal)

Feels like this has more to do with that than anything else, there are things in place to give trapped players playing time if their team is done with league play. Does any other league accommodate for HS? And let's be real, it's not like HS soccer is that serious.
On another thread someone posted MLS Next standing, https://league.northleft.com/standings.

The pre HS years played a bunch of games in the fall but the HS years only played a few for the east coast at least.

Is MLS Next having a thin schedule during the HS season a new thing?

Why are they doing this 2 weeks before a meeting?

I can give a quick summary of why.

SOCAL soccer clubs were not happy this was spring in them without notice. Many clubs are afraid of how the change will affect them financially. SoCal sent out a questionnaire about what clubs prefer. The data was pretty split down the middle with club in favor and not. One thing that was unanimous was wanting more transparency and a voice with us soccer. SoCal heads took that to us soccer which is why now you have a vague options for parents to say what they think and a more thorough option for coaching directors.

This is all just for show at this point as all the governing bodies have already decided what they want to do and US soccer was the one who originally sent out the order late last year to get a plan together.

They want us to think we have a say but we don’t. They’ve already decided.

I think you're underestimating how much power MLS has within US Soccer.

I don't know why everyone assumes the MLS would oppose this, they might, or they might not care. I can't see how it impacts them much.

Everyone says it impacts teams in international competitions but the one time my US kid played in a tournament in Europe with his US team he played in a 13 division with a team of primarily 13s with a couple of 12s and that was fine with the tournament organizers. Something that never would have been ok with anyone in any US tournament but they were cool with it. The English teams, since they are also school year (September) were doing the same thing.

Seems to me the most likely thing to happen is that US soccer will say "ok we fold, no more birth year mandate from US Soccer, everyone can do what they want" at which point its pretty clear all of US Club, USYS, and AYSO will go back to school year. MLS Next may or may not. Honestly if MLS Academies played with only BY kids playing up and MLS Next teams played with SY, maybe they would be more competitive with each other.

Man…..we played a tournament in Italy called the Verona Cup in 93. We were assured that we were fine using 2 of our school year players. We ended up winning our group against an Italian team, Czech team, and the Danes. It was a group of death.

The ended up throwing us out of the tournament because of it despite their assurances. It sucked

We had a shot at least at reaching the semifinals 🤣 We saw the finalists play and would have been smacked down

My kid plays for one of the biggest GA clubs on the West Coast. I visit here for East Coast club info. We haven't heard anything from club leadership reguarding BY or SY.

I also have connections with parents at local Socal ECNL clubs and nothing official has been communicated to them either.

We have been trying out at ECNL clubs at multiple age groups. (Trapped player) The coaches are completely aware why but won't comment on BY vs SY. We're just making connections and setting up for playing as a Discovery player if there's interest.
