Once again, Maryland scores down, VA scores up

Kudos to Governor O'Malley and the Union Thugs running the school system for destroying the best public school system in the nation. There was a time when the great MD schools were a reason to choose MD over VA - I wish I had moved before decent VA homes got out of my price range. What a tragedy.

So with their great scores, why isn't Virginia willing to show its fabulous results against other states adopting the Common Core? 'Cuz obviously they'd rule!

Which scores, exactly, are up and/or down? And how are these scores comparable?

Has nothing to do with O'Malley. Virginia kids are just smarter than MD kids. That's genetics.

Here is a more detailed thread. LOL maybe you didn't go to Virginia schools and didn't learn how to properly cite work?

This isn't attributable to OMalley and the performance of many MD counties except Montgomery County is increasing. Montgomery County is the primary county that is seeing a recent and significant drop in test scores. MCPS also has an adversarial relationship with Annapolis. You can thank MCPS and Josh Starr for declining scores which is probably why Josh Starr wants to do away with all testing.

The rise in scores in Fairfax and Arlington is a credit to those local school system and their leadership NOT the governor of VA who probably would prefer doing away with those districts and education in general.

Oh good grief.

actually Richmond is very pro education and the budget shows it

too many esol and fARMS kids in mcps. Montgomery county attracts these people because of all its facilities and its open arms policy...VA doesn't...

If it is apples to apples comparison...(socio-economic group to socio-economic group), MD is still doing well.

VA has only one way to go...

Agree 100%. Please leave Josh, we are proud of Montgomery County and Maryland and there is no longer any agrument to make that we have better schools than our VA counterparts. It is a shame. They are moving forward, we are not.

I think what is happening and the income news report shows also proves this is that the more affluent are fleeing maryland for virginia due to thre recent income tax hikes and the welcoming of undocumented worker policies.

Do any of those articles include data showing that "the more affluent are fleeing Maryland for Virginia" because of tax increases in Maryland, the Maryland Dream Act, and drivers licenses in Maryland?
