Looks like Virginia is doing it right!
Alexandria schools refuse to release their scores, lol. SAT scores hit eight-year high in Va.; D.C. also sees gains http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/education/sat-scores-hit-eight-year-high-in-va-dc-also-sees-gains/2013/09/25/fab9ef96-2565-11e3-b75d-5b7f66349852_story.html |
ACPS declined to release scores.
If any Board members read this, such a decision just creates an aura of unneeded distrust of ACPS. Alexandria residents have the right to know their own public high school SAT scores, no matter what they are. |
No, it doesn't "create" the distrust. It feeds it. There's plenty of reason to distrust ACPS. Clearly the scores must have been nothing to brag about. |
ACPS has released scores in recent years. Since it just has one high school, it may be waiting for other systems to release school-specific data before it does so. |
In 2012, TC Wiilams was 1436.
https://www.alexandrianews.org/2012/2012-sat-scores-up-slightly-below-state-national-average/ FFX was 1663 this year Arlington was 1645. |
What about FCCPS? |
FCCPS was number one actually. |

That's what happens when you retrocede the poor, minority part of the city to the surrounding county, and then establish a separate school system. http://fallschurchtimes.com/24617/man-about-town-shooting-down-some-school-myths/ |
Interesting...and not very surprising I guess if you consider the lack of economic diversity in FCCPS and the relatively low number of values being used to calculate the average. |
If George Mason were in Fairfax County, its scores this year would have been fifth in the county, behind TJ, Langley, Woodson and McLean. |
Looks like three of Arlington's high schools did well, looking at the SAT scores list on the "schools and general education forum." Montgomery County schools always score higher than the Northern Virginia schools on average. Not sure why though. Most every school on the list surpassed the US Average by a wide margin. |
The Montgomery County average is 15 points below the Fairfax average and a few points higher than the Arlington average. There are more schools in Montgomery towards the top than in NoVa, because there's no magnet in MoCo that attracts as many high-scoring students as TJHSST in Fairfax, but there are also more schools in Montgomery towards the bottom than in Arlington and Fairfax Counties. |
ACPS/TCWHS 2013 SAT composite score was 1434.
Full details here: http://www.alexandrianews.org/t-c-nations-sat-scores-remain-flat-while-virginia-scores-rise/ Given our diverse student body and low non-white SAT scores, I suggest the new Superintendent be of Minority Race drawn from NYC, Philadelphia, Norfolk, New Haven or like kind cities to emulate/model/reach to success for all our students. Time to change from the historic caucasian superintendent in Alexandria City. |
Loudoun's average jump was 16 points. |
