Enough with the Everything Bad Is Joshua Starr's Fault!!!!!!!!!! stuff already, please.

Why on earth wouldn't the superintendent be held responsible for declining scores under his watch???

Did you fail logic?

Actually, I never took logic, but I did get As in a lot of statistics classes.

If you're going to assert that rich people in Maryland are moving to Virginia because of taxes and policies towards immigrants, then to support that assertion, you need data showing that:

1. rich people in Maryland are moving to Virginia.
2. their moves are related to state taxes and state policies towards immigrants.

NP here. While Md SAT scores are going down, its top performers on the PSATs this year were at the highest cut off ever in the state for National Merit Semifinalists. This may suggest that while the overall performance is declining, competition within the cadre of the state's strongest students is getting even tougher. This may be the academic equivalent of the income divide getting wider over time.

+1 Would certainly take credit for anything positive. But let's not hold him accountable for the negative. Sounds like a politician, not a leader.

MC seems to have a larger share of poor and ESL kids compared to Fairfax. This drags the test scores. In addition, because MC has moved away from allowing for classes of kids of similar abilities grouped together, more middle class families in eastern MC are worried about sending their kids, so they leave the public system and that further helps pull down the avg scores. In Fairfax they have a VERY different program since a very high amt of kids are in the G&T program - MC has nothing similar.

I don't know what school your kid goes to but in my MOCO school my kid is "grouped" for various subjects like reading.

What is going on in MCPS is what happened to Prince Georges and Baltimore County schools years ago. Now some parts of Columbia, Md in Howard County are beginning to experience the same type of problems. The more they push Section 8 out into the burbs the more the burbs resemble the inner-city. Now suburban schools have to deal with issues that they aren't equip or train to deal with it. Resources in schools get drain with you have high percentages of FARM, ESL, and illegals. Instead of having white flight we now have green flight. Folks of all ethnicities that have money are either relocating further out or jumping ship to other states. Folks in Northern Baltimore County have already jumped ship to York County, Pa. Affluent families want to live and to send their children to school with other affluent families. Why do you think so many DC residents send their little darlings to private schools?

Also, Maryland is notorious for pacifying and enabling criminals. It's probably the only state where you could kill someone, get an early release from prison, obtain free housing, and benefits upon your release from jail.

You truly need Jesus.
You must be a troll begging for a reaction to your inflammatory, prejudicial, misinformed, UNinformed, half truth filled rant.
Well played, cause I took the bait.
Hey, at least this time I refrained from referring to your crack usage.

If it is apples to apples comparison...(socio-economic group to socio-economic group), MD is still doing well.

Correct, MoCo's reputation for benefits is known throughout the country and Central America. It is quite the destination and "land of gold" among some demographics.

It's a bad thing to have real actual facts to support one's assertions? How about that.

It happened on his watch; he needs to go.

Agree that Starr would be taking all credit if scores were rising and only tries to evade accountability now that scores are declining. He needs to go.

It isn't white flight that MCPS needs to worry about lowering schools scores. They are losing the Asian population to VA. The international community doesn't bother to fight the school system. They just move. If you want great schools look for where the Asians are going..its isn't MCPS anymore.

True!

Some Asian families have relocated to Howard County as well. Some of the schools in Howard County have had an increase of Asian students. I know both River Hill and Centennial High Schools have large percentages of Asian students. Asians are even moving to far out places like Loudoun County. Quite a few of their elementary schools have majority of Asian students. Rosa Lee Carter Elementary in Ashburn has over 60% of Asian students. Other schools have 30% plus and are definitely increasing their Asian population each year. MCPS is definitely loosing it's Asian student population.
