What happened to this California family?

This whole story is so sad, not the least of which was the Mum blaming. RIP

The saddest part of this whole thing is the likelihood that the order of death was probably dad, mom, baby, dog.

No, I think the baby died first, the parents were distraught and couldn't function. Or dad felt very sick, sat down with baby to rest and died. Either way distraught mom eventually tried to go for help but didn't make it.

I told my DH that they finally determined a cause of death for the California couple. He was like which couple is this? The van-life or the Burning Man people?

OK, perhaps the baby didn't. But it wasn't going to climb out of the carrier and go for help.

Sad. I think Dad or baby died first. Originally I thought Mom died first. Now I think Mom was behind, when she caught up Dad was not feeling well or already gone. She forged ahead but was already exhausted and distraught. I also wonder whether heat stroke is going to be more common with climate change, whether it was poor judgement to hike that day, or a Domino effect. RIP.

The baby was touching the dad in the carrier so any overheating by him would transfer to the baby, or vice versa.

They must feel some solace that there was no intentional act by anyone and all those fantasies and character assassinations dreamed up by disturbed strangers did not come to pass. Yikes, the burning man, drug using, orgy participating, narcissistic, selfish, unfit mom, lazy mom, etc.

Right? I’ll just be over here waiting for all those posters who dragged her name through the mud to come back and eat crow.

Would about possible sushi involvement?

They had only enough water for 1, not 4, did not even wear hats and had no collapsible dog bowl for water. It was 109+ going up SL and had been 105 the day before.

Those who called dopamine chasing seem to have been correct.

Thank you for sharing that. It’s hard to tell the elevation on Google maps. I’m shocked they attempted to do this given the weather conditions.

Baby carrier.
Dog leash tethered to husband.

Also possible that the dog and baby were experiencing heat exhaustion before or at the same time as the parents. Reading the reports, they didn’t have a dog water bowl with them.

I mostly stopped reading this thread right after the boulder theory because it was just getting ridiculous and gross with the murder theories. The obvious answer was the right one. I hope their families can find peace.

I told my DH that the two biggest mysteries of the last two months were solved in the same half-hour period. He knew about Brian Laundrie but had never heard of these people,

I would think the baby died first as well. Babies do not have the same ability to regulate temperature as adults and I imagine being inside a carrier would make it even hotter.

This view of the trail was also linked on Twitter:

They were basically trying to climb a mountain in 100+ degree weather.

yikes, I wouldn't want to hike that in even the best weather!
