It's not the Democrats who've stopped the Kavanaugh vote - it's moderate Republicans. The few who are left who seem to be taking seriously their Constitutional duty of advice and consent. That's why the WH has so tightly limited the FBI investigation - they're trying to walk the fine line between not actually finding anything bad and giving Collins and Murkowski enough cover to vote for him.

The problem is, as people get over the shock of the hearing and actually think about it and watch clips from it, they're realizing that Kavanaugh's behavior - the lying, avoiding of questions, obsession with beer - is not what we want in a Supreme Court justice. Will those few undecided Senators be brave and vote against him? Or will they toe the party line? That's what this week is about.

Speak for yourself. The people I know feel exactly the opposite way. We feel his anger and emotions were fully warranted, given the accusations against him. I don't hold that against him at all. I would have been very shocked had he remained calm and pleasant, given the obvious assumption of guilt many of the Democrats have toward him. I know if I were accused of something I didn't do, I'd be hard-pressed not to throttle those asking the questions.

Really? I would think less of you, then, and would not hire you. But I don't believe you. I think you would seethe in private like any human being, and get your act together to behave professionally in public.
Someone who stands accused of belligerent behavior should absolutely be calm when questioned, doesn't that make sense? And someone nominated to the Supreme Court, where patience and and open mind are paramount, should absolutely display those qualities when interviewing for the job. Obvious, no?

But here's the truth: he was hamming it up for the President, not you or me. He understood that if he didn't act like Trump preferred he did, his nomination would be pulled - Trump had just talked about it the day before. Trump has been quoted to advise those accused of sexual misconduct to deny, deny, deny, and fight back.
I don't believe Kavanaugh acted in character on that day, since his character is to be aggressive only when drunk - and he wasn't drunk at the hearing. This was an act put on to impress one person. And because of that display of extreme partiality and sycophantry, he should NOT be confirmed for the Supreme Court, whose agenda calls for opinions in mid-October on whether a pardon on Federal crimes also excuses one from state crimes. Please let that last bit sink in and connect it to people you know who could benefit from that handy ruling. You are looking at the creation of a kleptocracy, and it won't be good for your honest and ethical conservative agenda. Get it now? Quid pro quo of the worst kind.

EXACTLY. On what planet does one wait an entire lifetime to report? This could all have been investigated decades ago, had Ford come forward then.

I bet she never imagined she would ever report but felt the need to because of his nomination.

This talking point is so tiresome.

One again, she’s never aimed to send him to jail. She just thinks — rightly — that he does not belong on the supreme court.

If he were nominated to the SC 30 years ago, and she waited til now to speak up, you’d have a point.

Amazing how the Republicans can appeal to their paranoia and persecution complex to justify immorality.

Guess what, you're not being persecuted. You are in power. With power comes responsibility. If you drag these institutions down in the mud, what do you think is going to save you? You're on the precipice of a huge demographic shift in the US. Would it not make sense for you to channel that fear of being hunted and unfairly accused into strengthening the institutions?

What on earth are you blabbering about? We're talking about an innocent man (because last I checked, we are ALL innocent until proven guilty) being attacked based on an allegation with zero evidence. But sure, try and spin it into "Republicans are fearful of being hunted and unfairly accused"??? WTF.

Then she should have gone to the FBI.

Please. He's a judge. If anyone behaved towards him in his courtroom the way he behaved toward Klobuchar, they'd be in big trouble.

He behaved badly.

Oh, but wait! We've already been told, ad nauseum, that this *wasn't* a court of law! Right??? He had every reason to be outraged. And I agree with what Lindsey Graham said as well. This is truly an unethical sham. Democrats should be so ashamed; though of course, they have no shame.

In a criminal trial. Kavanaugh cannot at this time be sentenced to jail.

So did anyone figure out the rules to Devils Triangle yet? Need a new drinking game.

Innocent until proven guilty is a general standard we have adopted in this country. It's not only for criminal trials. It's something we value and ought to value in any case.

Someone posted this on Twitter:

3 glasses. Teams. Quarter needs to land in each glass. Teams start on opposite glasses. Each miss a sip. Winning team is first to have all members negotiate the triangle successfully. Losing team chugs. Devil’s Triangle. Baltimore, c 1981-85.

Agree.

I bet that most people would need to provide some type of evidence if lodging a sexual assault charge in the workplace. Because, there is a presumptions of innocence.
You don’t just get to lobby charges at someone and expect any action to be taken without providing SOME kind of evidence.

Merrick Garland didn't go ballistic when he wasn't even voted on. Maybe he should have, anger seems to be the only characteristic conservatives prefer.

Obviously, you'd be a terrible witness. If I were your lawyer, I'd never put you on the stand. You'd look like a violent liar with something to hide.

Dems need to see that Republicans feel like he is being hunted like a small sad squirrel. To some it may appear that he is being given a shot at one of the most powerful seats in the country. Fox News viewers and many Republicans feel though that he is literally Joan of Arc. He stands in for all of them, the poor men who must lie cheat and steal just to survive. Any bad behavior is not only given a pass, it is justified. I think many saw that interview and felt that he was lying but that it doesn't matter, because now that's what men like him have to do in this threatening environment to save themselves from being torn apart.

Incidentally, that's why so many poor people voted for Trump despite their own interests. He speaks to their sense of victimization and fighting back. They like that he will do whatever it takes to win, because they feel they need protection and someone who can take back the country from an alien and threatening culture.

Until liberals really grasp how visceral and deep this fear is, they'll need figure out how to manage the situation. At least Republicans understand the nerve they touched with MeToo and the immigrant children. They won't step back on other stuff, but I don't think they want to ignite that fear in the democrat base. They know all too well how powerful it is. Unfortunately I think they may be a bit late.

I assume that you're trolling. If not, look up Kavanaugh's approval numbers.

I thought it was a really perceptive post.

None of the locals who grew up here believe her. I don’t want to trash her online but if the FBI investigators go fully into her high school years it will be interesting.

Also interesting that neither her parents nor siblings support her
