ECNL forcing Brave & Union Partnership

The point is to get and idea of how many players will be selected per team in the many age groups. Is it normal to select 18 players per ECNL team? or do other age groups select more?

And this isn’t that hard to figure out if you are familiar with your own team and your own age group. Kids and parents talk and they know people on both Union and Brave. So you do the math. The club might be telling you a roster of 18-22, but you count 22 or 23 confirmed just from people you know or your friends know and you have heard some kids have committed from outside these clubs too.

I’m a parent of a player who belongs on the team but definitely isn’t top 5. I’m concerned they are taking everyone and telling us all roster sizes will be kept in check and we will have opportunity for playing time. It seems disingenuous at best. I am guessing at least 25 for our age group. Please just be honest so we can make the right choice. We like the kids and parents but also want a good experience for my DD next year.

Age group?

So players that got offered SYC 2nd team would prefer to stay in FVU 1st team?
What are pros and cons about that?

So players got offered SYC 2nd team vs FVU 1st team? I'd stay with the FVU. At least competition during training will be better than SYC 2nd team. That's an insult if that happened.

I suppose… but I could see SYC 2nd teams being more competitive than FVU at some age groups. It would be tough to choose a 1st team (ECNL) vs a possible stronger 2nd team (National Academy)

This is on the girls side? How much of an SYC homer are you to think SYC all of a sudden has become so strong with players that didn’t make the ECNL cut taking first team SYC offers. And now their second teams are somehow better than FVU first teams?

They must be talking about the boys side. Even the trolls know better than to make this claim for girls.

Actually SYC is much much stronger than Mclean on the boy side. Also feed Mclean lots of talent in previous years.

Well yes that is what pp said. The SYC boys are stronger. SYC girls are not stronger than FVU girls.

Mine too!

Thanks coach!

Why assume excited players are actually coaches posting here? If you were a parent of a player that tried out you would know the ID sessions were packed with top players who are interested and excited to be apart of FVU. It's not surprising that selected players are excited.

Good for parents above posting positive perspectives instead of the crap others are bringing.

Good luck to all whether you receive an offer or not.

I’m not debating that players are excited. I’m debating if a 13-16 player or a coach would post something like this “Teams all looking pretty good and rosters not overly large (normal VU size). Coaches working hard to make a transition that should have been worked out months earlier.”

Given all the movements happening around this time of year. If one was to leave FVU, would one still be responsible for paying the rest of the fees ($3K)?
I didn't see anything about it on the FVU Travel Academy Waiver. Is that disclosed somewhere?

You must have responded to the wrong message. The original quote just said their kid is excited.

So beware you could end up "on the team" but then several players may not dress every game. If that were my player I would probably wish we had made a difference choice. Even worse if you are expected to travel to NC and not play.

I'm worried it will be more than several.

Interested in people's opinion or parents have been in this situation. If you're player 19+ and sitting ECNL games, would it have been better to just play RL or GA (accept the premise that the area GA teams are in between RL and ECNL, I don't want to start a whole sid debate here)? Or better training to stay on the ECNL team but not play games?

Unfortunately, I have heard this as well and that there are still offers going out. It sounded like some players will not be dressing each week.

ECNL teams will save a few spots/add players from Bethesda and other MD teams who haven't been able to try out yet.

Nobody is crossing the river for this hot mess. More like 1-2 top FVU players who you all think is staying will go to Bethesda in May. I don’t know anyone who lives in VA who treks to PG for MDU.

What teen would prefer to NOT play games? Isn't that the whole point?

Unless you’re still playing 9v9, 2013 and younger, it’s essential that you are getting touches and playing time. If two years of RL is your only option do it especially if you like the club and can still practice with NL team. I would just go to GA and stay. You will get better with the same recruiting prospects if you can play but just need tape and playing time.

At the younger ages I can justify fighting for a roster spot to play on the weekend fixture. But as you get up into the u16 and above I don't see the point of being on a "high" level team if you aren't going to play. How will you be recruited and is that really how you want to spend the last few years of youth soccer? At some point the concept training for development vs games doesn't fly when you can start counting down the amount of games left. Are you developing to be the best intramural player at school since you aren't going to be recruited at #19 on the roster?

Hmmm all this post about being the 19th player. Play GA or ECNL REGIONAL, all good!
